Full View: I am always complaining that my lip glosses and lipsticks don't last long enough on my lips. I reapply constantly and it drives me crazy. I was recently browsing the Tarte Cosmetics Website and saw what seemed to be the answer to my problems. Tarte Seal the Deal Lip Sealant & Supergloss is a sealant and clear gloss in one tube that promises to seal lip color for long wear. Of course I had to have it. It does a decent job of stretching the length of time I go between reapplications but it isn't a miracle sealant.
The Product and My Use
The product is double ended with seal on one side and shine on the other. The instructions say to brush on the sealant, wait 15 seconds for it to set, then brush on the supergloss for a long lasting high shine. The sealant is thin and clear with no scent. I brushed it over my lips and the brush picked up some of my gloss. I hate when a brush picks up color and I have to reinsert it back into the clear product. After 15 seconds, I applied the supergloss which also has a brush. The gloss is clear and just a bit thicker than the sealant. It brushes on very shiny but I have noticed a little color on my brush if I don't wait long enough for the sealant to completely dry. The gloss is slightly minty scented and has a light mint taste. It turns up the shine on my lips and feels moist and not at all sticky. As for whether the sealant actually lengthens the time lip color stays on the lips, it does. But not for hours and hours. I would say my lip gloss that usually fades away in a half an hour will stay on about two to three hours (if I don't eat) with the sealant on. The supergloss lasts quite a long time and is very shiny. I like this product but it isn't a miracle sealant. It's also fairly expensive for such a small amount at $18.00. Still, it's an innovative product that does definitely extend the life of lip colors.
My Viewpoint
The sealant isn't a miracle and doesn't lock color in place all day but it does extend wear time by two to three hours which, for gloss, is quite a feat. You don't have to use the accompanying clear gloss over the sealant because the sealant doesn't dull your color but it's a great way to shine the lips and it smells and tastes good. It's tough to rate Tarte Seal the Deal Lip Sealant & Supergloss because, while it is an innovative and good product, it doesn't lock color in for as long as I would like. Still, it DOES seal in color and extend the life of glosses and lipsticks so, based on that, I will go with 4 stars. I recommend it but don't expect to apply your lip color and this product in the morning and have it still be there at night. You'll need to reapply color every few hours unless it is a longwearing formula in the first place. By th way, this product won the Redbook MVP award recently. They LOVE it!
