Whoops!
Where'd he go?
Oops- there- no. Wait. Over Here.
Nope, missed again.
As a makeup artist I am always on the lookout for product that enhance the makeup process. One thing that is very important is using a good eyeshadow base or primer.
The purpose of a primer is to provide a barrier between the lid skin on the eye and the makeup products which often have irritating ingredients in them. Also, it is to smooth out the skin surface so that eyeshadow application is more smooth and flattering.
I saw a product advertised which claimed that that it not only is a fantastic primer, but a LIFTING primer which lifts the eye area and provides an even better surface for eyeshadow application.
WHAT IS TARTE LIFED NATURAL EYE PRIMER WITH FIRMATOL LIKE?
TARTE makes an eyeshadow primer called LIFTED- NATURAL EYE PRIMER with FIRMATOL. The primer comes in a container which is purple metallic and looks very much like mascara.
The applicator is a sponge applicator which brings out a little bit of the milky substance inside. Once dotted on the skin, it is best smoothed out with the finger and blended well.
Once applied, within 10 minutes, it is supposed to bring a good lift to the eye area and smooth out crepey skin so that eyeshadow looks better.
HOW DOES TARTE LIFTED NATURAL EYE PRIMER WITH FIRMATOL WORK?
Here are the claims that Tarte makes for their LIFTED NATURAL EYE PRIMER:
Lifted™ Natural Eye Primer with Firmitol™
Let's take a look at this primer and how I found it to perform.
DID THIS REDUCE WRINKLES AND LIFT?
I did find that there was a slight lift to Tarte Natural Eye Primer, but it was not as dramatic as I was expecting. It did bring up droopy eye lid spots nicely and I liked that part of it, but it did not last all day. Still it was observable and good if that is what you are looking for.
SMOOTHING?
Yes, I did find that this eyeshadow primer from TARTE was smoothing.
LOCK IN PIGMENT FOR FABULOUS COLOR PAYOFF?
This is where I had a problem with Tarte Natural Eyeshadow Primer. Although my eyeshadow did stay in play all day, I found that the Tarte Natural Eyelid Primer did not give very good color payoff at all. Eyeshadows were subdued and one dimensional. Compared with swatches next to it of Too Faced Shadow Insurance Eyeshadow Primer, I thought that Tarte did a substandard job.
DID TARTE NATURAL EYE PRIMER MAKE LIDS SENSITVE?
I did not have any problems with sensitivities from TARTE NATURAL EYE PRIMER. There was not any burning, itching or dryness that came from the week that I used this primer. I have had problems in that department with URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTIONS.
FINAL COMMENTS
I returned the TARTE NATURAL EYE PRIMER to Sephora because although it did lift and lock in my eyeshadows for the entire day, I did not feel that it captured enough color from the eyeshadows that I was using like TOO FACED SHADOW INSURANCE does.
I value my color payoff with primers and if a primer does not catch enough of the pigment to lock it in, it is not of much use to me. I found that the shadows that I put on really faded and at first compared to Too Faced and even Urban Decay Primer Potion.
If you are a person who loves very sheer eyeshadows then I highly recommend TARTE NATURAL EYE PRIMER. It is very nice stuff. You won't mind it not locking in pigments very well.
If you prefer more intense colors, try for another brand.
The price of $20 gives you a lot less than Too Faced Shadow Insurance in product so I prefered to stick with Too Faced at this point in time.
