I got hooked on Tarte products after using their Smooth Operator tinted moisturizer. The Clean Slate face primer was my second Tarte product. I can't say I love it, but it does work in terms of helping make up stay on longer and go on more evenly. I also end up using waaay less make up if I apply this first. The only major complaint that I have is that it can be a bit crumbly when I apply it. I've used other primers that go on much more smoothly. I wish that this were more like a light lotion than the crumbly texture. I wonder if it's only my particular product that has this issue because I don't see many complaints about this... I'm not sure I would pay full price for this primer, but I've gotten it in a gift set and, as a result, have several of this buggers now.  Lastly, as with all Tarte products, I appreciate the clean, natural ingredients. I have extremely sensitive and dry skin, so I appreciate products such as this one that don't irritate it.

Tarte Clean Slate is a great face primer.  I have never liked foundation primers until I tried Clean Slate. Other primers have caused me to bread out or have caused my foundation to ball up.  Clean Slate on the other hand, did not break me out, and provides a smooth canvas for my foundation. It feels light and smooths out my giant pores. My foundation looks great all day.  I don't wear much makeup, but using this underneath my mineral powder really helps it go on smoother and more even. This is very nice because it feels so smooth, it smooths out my face and my makeup goes on much smoother. It also helped with my oiliness.  I have acne-prone skin and have to be very careful of things I put on my face.  You only need to apply a very small amount, and it is necessary to wait at least a few minutes for it to settle on your face before you apply your foundation. I also helps prevent flakiness when my skin becomes dry from acne products.

When I first heard the concept of a foundation primer, I thought "great, another gimmick to get women to spend money on unnecessary products." Then I actually tried one, from my favorite makeup brand at the time, Urban Decay (their Pore Perfecting Primer Potion.) It actually did help my makeup to stay on all day, and seemed to make my skin look a little smoother than just makeup alone. But it was expensive and added another step to my (already long) makeup routine in the morning. I didn't see enough of an improvement to keep up with it when my UD primer ran out. I tried a couple other brands when I got free samples and had the same experience. Then I got a free sample of Tarte's Clean Slate, and was amazed at the difference. The primer is clear in color, very soft and silky to the touch, and I only need to use a little bit (about the size of a pea) to cover my whole face. I can see the difference immediately - my skin looks a lot softer, pores are minimized, and it gets rid of shine. Next I apply my Bare Minerals powder foundation, and the Tarte primer makes me look so much more natural and less "cakey" than if I just use the powder alone.  What's even better about how great the primer works is that it's free of parabens, petrochemicals, and pthalates! I've only recently started paying attention to the chemicals I put on my skin, and unfortunately a lot of "safe" products just don't work as well as the ones that might be damaging - but Tarte Clean Slate works better than anything else I've tried! While it's a bit pricey, it's lasted a lot longer than my similarly-priced Urban Decay primer (I've been using the full size tube almost daily for 2 months and still have about half left!) I love this primer!

I bought this product from a well known beauty website and was looking for a face primer since I use concealer, foundation, and powder.  I tried this product and love how it glides on your face and feels so velvety to the touch.  I also like that the product is clear and doesn't stain anything.  It makes my makeup last all day and I don't have to worry about my face feeling like oil spilled on it at the end of the day either.  It doesn't break out my skin which is a huge plus as well.  The one flaw is the tube which towards the end of the product makes it difficult to get the product out.  So I found a remedy and just cut the end of the tube to scoop the rest out. You can make the most out of the product this way and save more money.  The product does cost a little more than other primers but I do think it is worth it.  It has natural products that will not hurt your skin and sometimes you have to pay more for a good quality primer.  I have tried so many others and this one gives me the best results.  So far, Tarte gets awesome reviews from me!
