Target.com —

Target is a popular company with discount department stores located all over the United States and it ranks next to Wal- Mart among the most widely recognized retail outlets. Like every other large retailer, Target is also present on the world wide web. The web site is, appropriately, Target.com and it offers a means to partake in the Target experience from the comfort of home.

Online Store Commentary:

Target.com offers many of the merchandise items that you would expect in a retail web site. The site is divided into categories for Home, Baby, Women, Kids, Men, Sports, etc. There are also some special links for clearance items, and the option to shop by brand name. A good cross- section of what you would find in the actual Target stores can be found in the web site.

While Target.com does have a good variety of merchandise, I'm a little disappointed in some of the product offerings in this site. Some of the departments have very few options and they do not come even close to the variety offered at a physical location store. Considering Target's size and name recognition, I would expect a little more in its web site.

Another issue I have with Target.com is shipping. Target.com has made some important strides in this area and the site can be counted on to offer free shipping on orders greater than $50 in most categories. However, don't expect your shipment to arrive in the stated time frame. I have had little luck getting my shipments when I expected and the only reason I have let it slide is because of the fact that the shipping is free. One other thing to keep in mind if you order from Target.com is that it is often in your own best interest to spend the $50 and take advantage of the free shipping. A purchase amount of, say, $40 isn't practical because the shipping will bring the total cost close to $50 anyway. You are better off looking for more things to purchase.

Pages load quickly at Target.com. The product information is fairly good, too, and the customer service is quick to answer questions or help you place an order. Customer service can be contacted either by phone or e-mail and they are generally very happy to assist and make your shopping experience better.

Bottom- Line Viewpoint:

Target.com is a decent online store with enough positive points to earn a passing grade. Prices here are comparable to what you would pay at the store and spending enough money to get free shipping will make the experience more economical. It would be nice if certain departments offered more merchandise, but Target.com is still a decent place to browse for household goods.

I never shop on this site. I find stuff at Walmart.com cheaper and I can run up and pick the stuff up. I should check the site out again. I haven't been there in ages.

Thanks for a great review. Believe it or not, you're the only other person I know (besides myself) who has ever shopped on Target.com! I agree that it is a potentially great site but sometimes does not offer enough variety or options. Perhaps it is sitll a "work in progress."

Thanks for reviewing this. I'm considering using the site to order something for a friend and I was glad to read about the free shipping on most orders over $50. Just what I needed to hear.
