I have always liked Target more than Wal-mart until I had first hand experience with Target's return and exchange policy .... I was not impressed to say in the least and I will not be returning to any Target EVER.

My Grandmother lives in Oregon and sent some Christmas gifts down for the holiday. The shorts she sent were too small and the B-Brats doll she sent was defective. I called her and she told me she purchased them at Target. We went to exchange the items, not return, but exchange and I was told they do not make any exchanges or returns on anything that does not have a reciept. I called my grandmother, who no longer had the reciept and she was so upset. So the moral of this story is don't buy from target unless you intend on giving the gift recipient the reciept to make returns or exchanges! I feel as though Target is robbing their consumers! A crappy customer service and poor return policy will make me steer clear from buying anything from this chain ever again.

Couldn't agree more - They wouldn't even accept returns off my baby registry without a gift receipt! UGH. If they give a store credit - what's going to happen - 1) I buy more stuff from them and most likely purchase more than the value of the credit; 2) I spend less than the store credit and they still have the cash amount of the original purchase on their books; 3) I never use the store credit, but they still have the actual cash from the original purchase and can resell the item that was returned.

Well you can't blame Target becuase of everything that went on there are lot of people out here trying to scam places (not saying you) and they have to (1) make sure it's actually from there store and (2) follow company policies, Target offers gift reciepts that can be asked for when being checked out so that could have been prevented.

I say if they eat more than 25% of it they should have to pay, or at least a portion anyway. if the food is bad your gonna know pretty quick. If a steak is cooked wrong you know as soon as you cut it, chicken is a little harder to tell.

That is so true! It seems that the bad and the bad some people do, cause rules to change and make things more difficult for everyone. It's not a bad policy and one that is needed, especially here in the south. I see it all the time in restaurants...complaints that food is bad, yet they eat it all and then complain? If they eat it, they shouldn't expect to get their money back.

Actually, I was not aware that ANY store took returns or made exchanges without a receipt. Target specifically hands out a Gift Receipt with every purchase in the Holdiay Season and will always gladly print a receipt any time you request one. I do not have a problem with a store requesting a receipt for a return or an exchange. As noted in other comment, this requirement is due to the dishonest people trying to return things that were never purchased at that store. Yes, the honest folks suffer for it, but it is necessary in today's world. The lesson here should be: in the future save your receipts.

Receipts being required for returns or exchanges is the way it should be. A large portion of all lost revenue for stores is in the return of items either stolen or not bought from the store in question. In the long run a tougher return policy requiring a receipt will benefit all consumers. It does suck for the honest person, but blame it on the thieves and not the stores that require it. Ron
