My son was in desperate need of a new bed. Being that he's 16, in a couple years he'll be off to college anyway. He's not the best at taking care of things, so we hated to buy this nice bed and have it not be in good shape by the time he moved out. I saw this inexpensive sofa bed at Target and thought that would be a great idea for him.
We bought this sofa bed for my son for his 16th birthday. He was ecstatic to have something cool like that in his room. So much so, he even put the whole thing together himself. It came unassembled in the box, but he put it together in just a matter of minutes, insisting he do it all on his own. We also bought a few throw pillows for it.
He now has a multi-function piece of furniture. If he has friends over, they don't have to sit around on his bed. Now they can sit down on a couch. At night he just grabs a throw and puts it down into a bed, and he's good. It's in a basic black color, so it goes with anything, especially in a teenager's room. He can fall asleep stretched out over the love seat in the living room, so comfortability really wasn't a huge factor for him, yet it is comfortable.
If he takes care of this sofa bed, it's something he can take to college with him. It would be ideal. If he doesn't take real good care of it, we can reinvestigate buying a new one at that point, but he'd probably be responsible for paying for it on his own the next time. Yet at just $179, it really wasn't much of a strain on the wallet.
There is only one small negative, and that's the loud clicking noise it makes as you change it from a bed to a sofa and back. If my son changes it out when everyone's sleeping, it can get a tad annoying. Yet, it's a small negative considering all the other benefits of this piece of furniture.
