Holiday Cheer that's Easy and Affordable

I am not an avid holiday decorator. I live in a neighborhood full of suburbanites who love to put out the big snowglobes with the faux snow, the lighted Santa brigade and just about everything else you can think of. (And to quote Seinfeld: "Not that there's anything wrong with that.") My neighbor actually does major decorations, with real pumpkins, just for Halloween every year. There's practically a pumpkin nativity scene going on there. But my schedule and interests just don't allow me to decorate my house for any season in a big way. We don't have children, and I have other things I'd much rather be doing. Am I a Scrooge? Perhaps. But last year at Target I found a Faux Amaryllis 24" Wreath that just stopped me in my tracks as I walked down the aisle. It was so big, and lusciously vivid and red that I had to have it. And for about $35, I did.

About the Faux Amaryllis 24" Wreath
The name pretty much says it all. The wreath is bright and vividly red, with faux amaryllis blossoms and nothing else. It's a nice change from the waxier looking Poinsettia blossoms you usually see on decorations. The fire engine red color can't be missed, and while the wreath is incredibly lightweight, it's also very sturdy. Last year was the first year I saw this wreath at Target, but it's back again this year.

Hanging the wreath is simple, with a wreath hook. The silk blossoms can be arranged and fluffed. The wreath is designed for outdoor use, but I would only use it on a covered porch or an area that's protected from the elements, if you expect to use it for more than one season. I stored my wreath last year in a garbage bag, and it emerged fresh as a daisy for this season as well.

The thing I love most about this wreath is how vividly it stands out against our green door, and how noticeable it is, day or night, when you approach our home. It's a definite festive touch, but it isn't gaudy. People who come to visit ask about it, and touch it, and ask where I got it, because everyone who sees it loves it. When I tell them it's a simple Target item, they are always shocked. I don't mind sharing the secret. More front doors should look this good.

Cat's Bottom Line
This is our favorite, and primary Christmas decoration. I may not have time for lights and inflatable Santas, but I love this wreath and it's an easy way to dress up our house for the holidays without taking up a lot of time, or going overboard.
