Flavor prevails at this sushi and fusion restaurant in downtown Iowa City, Iowa. My husband and I started our pre-show dinner with a special sushi roll featuring both salmon and tuna. Takanami (tall wave) makes some of the best sushi I have had and could easily hold its own against some of the best sushi restaurants on the coasts.  As a budget diner, I would say that the cost is pretty steep.  For example, a regular cuppa joe is $4 per cup.  To save, I highly recommend going for lunch, which features delicious and plentiful bento boxes included salmon or tuna, miso, seaweed salad, and other seasonal side dishes, for only $10.  For special occasions, there is a small, more private seating area that seats up to approximately 8… read full review »

You get it all at Takanami! Not only is the sushi to die for, but the atmosphere and staff are excellent. There is a reason this place is always packed. The martini's are also a favorite of mine. The bento boxes are a great choice for lunch, but they have great dinners as well.… read full review »
