Chinese food without the price tag!

5

I love eating Chinese food but to be honest, this is one of those cuisine's that I just can't cook. Chinese food is always expensive and when I end up ordering for the whole family it always breaks the bank a bit. So in the mood for Chinese food one day I decided to grab the Tai Pei General Tso's Chicken along with some other delicious Chinese entrees and whipped them up quickly. I loved the fact that I could throw this in the microwave and pretty much forget about it. While it was a small serving, between all the dishes it gave my family a little taste of everything, just the way we like it! The price isn't too shabby either!

Tai Pei General Tso's Chicken - Snack or Meal?

5

If you can't afford to splash out on an Asian banquet, this is a small piece of heaven you can have at home. There are many flavors of Tai Pei, but the General Tso's Chicken flavor, is my favorite. I like the combination of spicy Tso's sauce with the crunchy sweet vegetables. My dilemma is two fold. Firstly the calorie content is not quite low enough for a snack but at the same time it's not anywhere near high enough for a meal. So is it a snack or a meal? My second dilemma is one of substance. Whilst I love the Tso's sauce and crunchy vegetables, the package is sold on the premise that there is chicken inside. There was a little, but it was only the smallest amount. On the plus side, Tai Pei's range of boxed cuisines are very inexpensive so perhaps the lack of chicken is somewhat just. They are also so easy to cook a child could do it. Just a few minutes in the microwave. For me, this is the perfect little box of General Tso's Vegetables ... with Chicken.

Chicken?? Where?? Skip it.

When I bought this I thought I was getting some kind of chicken dish with a few veggies. I like the "general tso's flavor" and the price was great, so I thought I'd try it out. I don't know if I had a bad batch or if this is how they normal sell this product, but there were 3 very small pieces of chicken. A lot of veggies, rice and sauce but very little chicken. It was not at all what I expected and I felt cheated by the false advertising. It should just be a veggie dish. The flavor is good, the veggies were good, but there was hardly any CHICKEN in this "General Tso's CHICKEN"!! There are better products out there that I'll be buying next time.

Lots of veggies, low calories

General Tso's is one of my favorites from the Tai Pei Product line. It is a nice mix of vegetables, including snap peas, carrots, onions and bell peppers. This is the "new and improved" recipe, which I agree with. The older version was a bit too sweet, yet this one is well balanced and has a nice spicy sauce. The amount of meat is rather low, but that's fair, given the low calories of 175 for the whole meal. Its very satisfying and doesn't leave you hungry. Also, if you take it to the office and heat it up there, it wont stink up the whole place. Some people don't care about that but I am conscious about such things. This one is great for times when you miss the asian take-out but know you really shouldn't have it.
