Tae-Bo Gold  —

Quick View

Billy Blanks' Tae-Bo Gold, produced in 2000, is for the over 40 crowd but anyone who can't keep up with his other workouts or people who want a slightly less challenging workout will enjoy this. I think it's great for all ages.

Full View

When I was in my 30's, I needed something to kick start my exercise routine. I had stopped working out and was getting lazy. I was frustrated by ordinary Tae-Bo workouts because I couldn't keep up. I found Tae-Bo Gold, made for the over 40 crowd. Although I wasn't yet over 40, I felt over 70, so I bought it. It's excellent!

The Workout

This workout is typical kick boxing just slowed down a bit. Believe me, it's still very much a workout. It just isn't as frenzied as some of Billy Blanks' workouts. The exercisers are older - some look to be in their 70's which humbled me - and the music is older too, apparently to appeal to older people. I am not a huge fan of the older music (50's and 60's stuff I didn't know) but it doesn't take away from the quality of the workout.

The entire thing from warm up to cool down is 35 minutes. The music is a bit too loud and sometimes it's tough to hear Billy talking. Still, all you have to do is follow along. There is nothing high impact and no over the top moves. Anyone can follow this workout but do NOT be fooled into thinking it is easy. It really isn't. There are some excellent moves that target key areas and the cardio work is good. If you are athlete, sure, this will be too easy. But if you are somewhat sedate or an intermediate exerciser, this workout is great. It didn't leave me frustrated but it DID leave me feeling like I actually got a real workout in and I did. It took about a month before I was able to complete an ordinary Tae-Bo workout and moved up from there. Still,on days when I didn't want to beat myself up or go crazy on the cardio, I would pop in this tape. In fact, I STILL have it and still use it now and then. Sometimes, you just don't want to kill yourself to get in a good cardio workout.

Like I said, this is NOT easy like Tai Chi or something. There is kicking, punching, sitting (and holding that position for a crazy amount of time) and a lot of other Tae-Bo moves that you may be familiar with. The pace isn't slow. It's on the fast side of medium paced. I highly recommend this workout to anyone who needs a kick start and wants to learn Tae-Bo without getting frustrated and gassed out. Tackle this and you will be ready for more advanced Tae-Bo workouts or other more advanced workouts.

My Viewpoint

Tae-Bo Gold is excellent for anyone or any age who is starting out or who may need a slightly slower pace than the regular Tae-Bo workouts provide. You will get a good solid workout without the frustration of tripping over your feet and having to stop for air. Forget age. Go by fitness level. This is good for beginners and intermediate exercisers and anyone who wants to learn Tae-Bo at a slightly slower pace than Billy Blanks' other workouts. This is a solid gold 5 star workout!

This is a cool article that talks about not needing the tapes to do a workout:

Thanks fro the review. I have tried one of his other tapes and though it was difficult for me to do at the time, I really enjoyed it.

We seem to be on the same line of thinking with diet and exercise:)
