I have been a subscriber for many years. I do like the new magazine format because you can fold it open flat. The previous small magazine could not do that. But the guide is lacking in a lot of other areas.
There are minimal daytime listings! They only list evening programs and even that stops at 11 PM. So you're really not getting your money's worth with so much info missing. It is really annoying when you want to watch daytime TV and you don't know what is on unless you channel surf and I hate doing that. I would rather look in the guide and see what is on to make my choice. By the time you surf you have missed half of the show you finally settle on!
I like reading some of the articles about actors and the letters to the editor, but I could buy a "star" magazine for that. I buy TV Guide for the listings and that's not what you get!
Also, another quirky thing about them is their subscription schedule. Let's say you purchase 52 issues. You expect to receive 52 WEEKS of the Guide, right? Well, that's not what happens. They count in some very odd way and you end up getting about 10 or 11 months of magazines. I had suspected this for a long time so I let my subscription lapse and then started it up again and wrote down the first issue I received. If you look on the address label it will tell you when your last issue will come. It is always less than what you have paid for. I don't know how they get away with that. I did complain to them but they made some excuse about double issues and feature covers which didn't make a bit of sense.
In 2006 my subscription started with the December 18th issue so I calculated my 52 issues to end with the 12-10-2007 issue. But on my address label it says my subscription ended with the 11-12-2007 issue. That is only 43 WEEKS, not 52.
So I really cannot recommend TV Guide to anyone.
