The Tefal Ultraglide 1579 iron is a great investment. It has an automatic off, so it is very safe. It also has vertical and horizontal steam functions. The steam may be turned off as needed. This iron has a teflon-type coating which is non stick, and it does glide well over surfaces. The cord is quite long, but I do have a problem with it curling up on itself since it does not retract. It also has a pull out tray to pour the water for steam into- no mess! The water reservoir does need to be filled quite frequently, as a large volume of steam is produced. The steam function should not be used until the iron has had sufficient time to heat, as it will drip water onto the surface you are ironing. This product includes a spray button as well as the steam button. It has numerous settings from cotton to synthetics. The iron is a little heavy. This iron has lasted longer than other high-end expensive irons, so it is very economical. It is a very good investment, and it will last a long time.
