Symantec Norton Internet Security 2007 Full Version for PC Review Summary

Protecting your computer from the wilds of the Internet and other sources of viral infection(s) has become a full time job. And Symantec Corporation is in the vanguard of the fight with products like Symantec Norton Internet Security 2007. But our community of personal computer users has mixed feelings about the combination software that brings anti-virus, firewall, popup blocker, as well as parental controls functionality to the PC table, with statements like “Avoid Symantec's Norton Internet Security product like the plague. I wasted $70 on something that slowed down my system, caused my programs to stop running reliably, and killed my network connectivity” not uncommon. To be fair some reviews did find the software easy to use and useful, but the majority decried Norton Internet Security 2007’s drag on system resources and overall poor interaction with Windows. Read what our community has to say about Symantec Norton Internet Security 2007.

I have used Norton Internet security for several years. It have great protection and a easy interface for the user. It logs all system attacks or general problems with internet security. The program is about $70.00 and can be installed on up to 3 home computers. This is good for a year and then you must... review »

Early this year I sought a commercial, well-recognized anti-virus solution for my PC because my company's VPN wouldn't allow me to logon with the smaller-name AV software I had been using. It required one of the "big names" to be loaded, so I chose Symantec Norton Internet Security 2007 and downloaded...

PROBLEMS INSTALLING INTERNET SECURITY 2007 (INCLUDING SYMANTEC TECHNICAL HELPLINE). AFTER A 3 WEEK PERIOD, I GAVE UP AND AND FILED FOR A REFUND (MONEY-BACK GUARRANTEE FOR UP TO 60 DAYS). BUT FILING SEEMS TO BE EVEN TOUGHER THAN INSTALLING. NEVER RECEIVED A DIME BACK. $70 DOWN THE DRAIN. TECH SUPPORT SENDS A PROGRAM TO UNINSTALL THEIR PROGRAM AND MONITOR THAT YOU ARE NOT USING IT, BUT NO MONEY BACK.

I have used Norton products in the past and decided to give McAfee a try. It didn't take long to realize I had made a mistake! Since I had paid for a year of service, I decided to go with it.

Once my year was up, McAfee automatically charged my credit card to renew for another year with no prior notice. Further, I have two PCs (desktop, laptop), I was only using McAfee on one of those. When one system went down, I began using McAfee on the other to finish out my year. I should note that I had bought a license for 2 systems, so this should not have been a problem.

Turns out it was a problem. McAfee...

Back in the days of DOS Norton utilites were the best thing going,   Unfortunately this is not true now.  Norton System Works is an over priced, resource hogging, hard to configure for the average person all in one protection software package.  As new versions come out each year the program gets bigger and bigger with pver 20 programs and services running in the background.  On older computers and some cheaper new ones this programs severely slows the computer down.  Norton should work on reducing its overhead on performance then adding new features,  If you have an older version and dont... review »

This program will slow down your computer and hog tons of system resources.  It will make itself impossible to fully uninstall.  Meanwhile, I highly doubt that it offers better protection than the competition.  I use a free antivirus program called Avast, and I have never had any problems.  I also run Spybot and AdAware to block malware/spyware etc.  I also make sure to run Windows Update frequently to make sure that my system is patched.  Combined with safe web-browsing behavior and common sense regarding email attachments, I have NEVER gotten a virus.

Nobody needs this program, and in...

One of my acquaintance sent us an e-mail which contained a computer virus.  This software wiped it out in a second automatically without my knowledge.  What a wonderful Anti-Virus software is!

However, it slows down any computer operations dramatically, especially, whenever I open any file of MS word, or Excel and so on.

My another computer is very old and has a small hard disk.  My second computer has been occupied by this software.  I can not install any software there.  This Anti-Virus software is so large and eats up PC resources.  Of course, it slows down mortally any computer...

As with previous versions of the Norton Internet Security Suite, the 2007 release has an excellent human interface and protects a user's computer against most know internet-based threats.  Updates to key components such as the virus library and program software happen automatically and in the background.  However, this suite is a major system hog with regard to memory (disk and system) and processing cycles.  If you are a general user doing email, document generation and financial management, use of resources may not be a problem.  However, power users with multiple simultaneous high end applications can... review »

Norton while sworn by by a lot of people and *some* bought out computer manufacturers is one of the worst. Its a pain to remove and sometimes cant be removed by the user, the user has to call Norton (and pay by the minute for tech support) in order to get it completely removed. Norton can cause compatibility issues in a lot of newer programs and even cause tem to crash. I get at least 10 calls a week with someone who is in a situation because Norton is messing their computer up and costing them serious money and time. About half of these people I have to refer BCK to Norton because Norton won't... review »

Recently was dropped from Norton Anti virus with error message stating subscription had expired. Subscription expires 3 months from date of being dropped. Upon checking I did have two accounts, the original had expired. The second was still acticive till 19 Mar 2008. It was my error that I had been paying them for two accounts, but both were charged to identical listings and they would not inform me of this fact, and they did not merge the accounts, leaving without my anti virus protection. Their customer service did not help. but I did manage to correct the problem on my own.

I PURCHASED MY FIRST PC WHEN I RETIRED FROM ALLFIRST BANK IN 2002. THIS IS WHEN I PURCHASED MY FIRST NORTON FULL VIRUS PROCTECTION. SINCE THEN WHENEVER THERE IS AND NEW ADDITION I AM PURCHASING IT. MY LASTEST PURCHASE WAS THE 2007 VERION OF INTERNET SECURITY. I HAVE NEVER HAD A VIRUS SINCE USING NORTON AND KEEPING IT UPDATED. I KNOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE USED OTHER PRODUCTS AND CANNOT SAY THIS. I ALSO CHECK OUT MANY OTHER PRODUCTS TO RUN WITH THE NORTON BECAUSE YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH SECURITY.

Well known program and easy to use and install.  But made the PC run a lot slower after it was installed.  Good that you can update antivirus updates frequently.  With the new virus threats being discovered daily, it's important to have an antivirus/firewall on your computer and the Norton is certainly a good product to have, especially if you can get it cheaper after one of the mail-in-rebates being offered.
