When you use your garage for more than just parking your vehicle you need to be able to see what your doing. I installed Four 48" Fluorescent Light Fixtures (2 on each side) They hang on chains from the rafters. Well if you have ever bought any fixtures you know they rarely come with bulbs so I looked over my choices and picked these Sylvania T-12 40watt bulbs.

These come in a pack of two each so with 4 fixtures I needed 4 packs. I was lucky since they were on sale and I got them for $2.25 per pack. These are 40 watt bulbs with a life span of 9,000 hours and like house bulbs these are cool white. These bulbs have 2 pins on each side for electric contact and install easy with a simple twist of the bulb.

These bulbs are quick starting and even when it's cold outside and although it also depends on the fixture it is nice to have full light in 30 seconds when the mercury is hovering around Zero! These bulbs are now going through their 3rd winter out in the garage and are still as bright as when I installed them.

With only 2 lights on I can do pretty good but when I need to work under the hood of my truck I fire up all 4 of them and have no problems at all. My garage is 24'x24' and looks as bright as a factory with all 4 lights on.

Bottom Line

I also have 2 fluorescent fixtures in my kitchen and they also have these same bulbs in them. So whether you need them inside the house or in your garage or work shop these are great lights to use. I get no flicker from them only a nice bright light that lets me see what I am doing. At a life span of 9,000 hours it will be a very long time before I need to replace them!
