I'm a crazy person who runs an animal rescue out of my home. At the moment we have 4 cats and 8 kittens in the house, including my own 3 cats. We give every cat litter that we use quite a workout. If it works well for us in this mad house, it will be wonderful for anyone with a resonable number of cats.
As the name implies, Swheat Scoop is a wheat-based cat litter. It doesn't contain clay, fragrance, or chemicals to try to mask odors. It's non-toxic, biodegradable, and certified as safe to flush into the sewer system. Because this product is free of clay and chemicals, it is safe to use with very young kittens. Scoopable litters aren't usually something that you'd use with baby cats but Swheat Scoop is harmless if they happen to ingest it.
This litter looks entirely different from any other cat litter that you've ever seen before. It's tan in color and looks like Grape Nuts or something. It is a clumping litter so it will produce hard pieces that are easy to scoop out of the box. It has a bit of a "grainy" scent but it isn't anything unpleasant or particularly noticeable. The most impressive thing about this litter, in my opinion, is how well it absorbs the unpleasant odor of cat urine. Trust me, I've tried EVERYTHING available and Swheat Scoop Cat Litter is THE very best product I've ever used when it comes to odor absorption.
This superior odor elimination does come at a price, though. A 13.5 ounce box cost about $10 at Target. I bought 3 boxes for $30 and they will last us with the 12 cats/kittens in the house for a week. We'd spend at least the same amount of money on *more* of the other brands of litter and the odor absorption wouldn't even come close. I'm happy to spend more $$ for less product when Swheat Scoop works this well!
This cat litter isn't stocked in grocery stores, wholesale clubs, or many discount stores. I usually buy it at PetSmart but I picked up 3 boxes of it last weekend at the local Target. Most pet supply stores that I've visited (at least in this area) have it in stock. If you are interested in trying it and absolutely can't locate it in your area, I know that many online sites sell this product.
Swheat Scoop is THE best cat litter that I've ever used. It's easy to scoop, it almost completely absorbs odors, and it doesn't have an obnoxious artificial fragrance. I recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a scoopable litter that absorbs just about every odor your cat leaves in the cat box.
