I know that everyone's heard by now that this movie is bloody and that there's a lot of gore.  I'm not going to tell you that it isn't, but I am going to tell you that it may not be as disturbing in context as you may think.  The cinematography is spectacular & the lighting & colors are very muted - except for the blood, which is RED.  I mean really bright red, red.  The effect is that the blood seems almost cartoonish.  Also, the fact that this a musical makes the blood (and the killing) seem very theatrical and unreal.  I frequently have problems with my kids seeing some of today's slasher films, but I didn't really have a problem exposing them to the blood and killing in this movie.  I was somewhat more disturbed and concerned with one particular non-bloody incident near the end of the film (in the basement - you'll see it comming & you'll know what it's going to be, but you might not know to cover your eyes if you're squeemish), but my kids didn't have a problem even with that.  All in all, this movie may be a bit disturbing for the more sensitive movie-goers (particularly those that haven't been exposed to a lot of bloody murdering movies), but strangely enough it is a really good time.  The music is complex but catchy.  The story is intriguing and more that a little different (and I know that's what I'm looking for).  The performances by the cast are truly amazing - both the well-know veterans and the younger, unknown actors shine and draw you into their world.  You might just find yourself singing Sweeny's theme song on your way home - I know we did!
