During a hike, my youngest son somehow got Poison Ivy on his face.  I took him to the doctor and he was prescribed medication and it cleared up quickly.  My oldest son ended up getting it too but, his was on his thighs and the doctor said there was no need to see him.  She told me to go to the pharmacy and purchase Benedryl Allergy medicine and some over the counter Poison Ivy Treatment.  As I mentioned in a previous review, I purchased Ivy-Dry Kids Rash Treatment which didn't work.  I happened to be at the Dollar General store when I spotted Swan Calamine Lotion in a 6fl. oz bottle and it was only a dollar.  I read the bottle and it seemed to be the real thing and so, I bought it and it worked!

The Facts

This Skin Protectant helps dry the oozing and weeping of poison Ivy, poison Oak and poison Sumac.

Active Ingredients: Calamine 8%, Zinc oxide 8%

My Experience

As I mentioned earlier, the previous treatment we purchased for my son's poison Ivy didn't work at all and cost $5.99.  I purchased a 6 fl. oz. bottle of Swan Calamine Lotion for a mere dollar and it worked wonders. Unbelievable.  After shaking up the bottle of lotion, (and this time it is actually LOTION unlike the previous product we purchased) I poured a liberal amount on a paper towel and applied it to all the infected areas.  The lotion has a pinkish color and has a light lotion consistency.  The scent is actually on the minty side and when applied, doesn't burn or run.  I had no problem getting my son to allow me to apply this lotion and within hours, his rash began drying out and the itching decreased immensely.

My Final Viewpoint

Swan Calamine Lotion is quite an effective product and cost so little.  I definitely recommend it and am giving this lotion a 5 star rating.

OOPS! I misread, I thought you paid $5.99 for the Calamine Lotion! See? It does really work!

From experience, I am a big fan of the old standby-Calamine Lotion. Amazing. You pay good money for the "miracle-cure" medicines in the drug stores, and what works? Calamine Lotion! By the way, I get mine at the Dollar Store, and it works just as well!
