I've been watching Survivor since the very first season, and year after year I can't wait for the next season. There were a few seasons I skipped (Survivor overload!) after they showed way too many too close together. However CBS seems to have a good timing scheme on these now and it is a must watch show!
Survivor throws around 16-20 contestants into the middle of a desserted area. Whether it be an untouched island, or the middle of the African dessert, the scenery alone makes the show worth watching. The most current season is in Samoa in the South Pacific and the opening shots are gorgeous. Looks like an ideal vacation spot - if only there was a hotel :) I would never volunteer for this show because the elements these people have to live through can be so harsh. This includes hot sun, lots of rain, and all of this with no indoor plumbing!
Each season, the contestants are split into tribes. Usually it's two tribes, but in the past it has been more. They have to compete in challenges each week to win rewards first of all such as Fire, food, a fancy dinner, a shower! But while the luxuries are nice, the challenges they WANT to win are the Immunity Challenges. The tribe that wins immunity can't be sent home that night while the losing tribe has to vote someone off.
These challenges are beyond belief and very creative. The Survivor team makes physical and mental challenges that would be rough for even the fastest and strongest person. A lot of times people get injured, sometimes seriously enough that they have to leave the show for medical attention. Yet another reason this show is not for me!
In the end it all comes down to two people. I think there's been more then 2 on some seasons, but regardless in the end it all comes down to a vote. In the same fashion as Big Brother, the last 7 survivors that were kicked off remain secluded until the game is over. At the end, they vote for one of the two and decide who should win the $1,000,000 prize. That's a lot of money, but personally not worth all the things they go through! No good food, no comfy bed, sometimes getting rained on all night. For a lot of people, it's the pride they want to win more than the money. After so many seasons, this show has become more about proving oneself and showing that they can survive!
Regardless of whether or not you think you could go on a show like this, it doesn't mean you shouldn't watch! It's entertaining, exciting, and there are usually a few interesting twists to keep the audience on their toes. Enjoy!
