Superbad Review Summary

Superbad is "funny and creative in a Larry David kind of way, as it reminds some of the comedy found in Curb Your Enthusiasm. The story in Superbad follows three high school geeks in their goal to lose their virginity before heading off to college. While a few reviewers found the film was nothing more than a "vulgar version of American Pie" or "a highly-hyped teenage comedy that falls short of the pantheon," the majority of Viewpoints moviegoers see Superbad for exactly what it is, "so creative and perverse," it's "hilarious." "Superfunny!"

2007's Superbad was written by Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) and Evan Goldberg (Da Ali G Show), over a period of more than a decade. In other words, they first conceived the movie when they were in junior high, which is not surprising, given the nature of the film, and the often juvenile humor on display.

Let's get this out of the way: Superbad is not the funniest movie of all time, nor is it a complete bore.  Instead, it's a highly hyped teenage comedy that falls short of the pantheon (it is certainly not this generation's Animal House), but is far better than some of the offerings of the last few years...

For those of you who have ever watched Curb Your Enthusiasm, you are familiar with that unease feeling you have as you watch the shows main character(s) slowly get themselves into deeper and deeper trouble. At the same time, the situations are so creative and perverse that they are hilarious. There you sit between humor and shock. So is the case with Superbad.

The story follows three high school geeks in their final semester over the course of a weekend as they strive to lose their virginity before school ends and they head off to college in the fall. They have heard stories of women/girls getting...

If you liked any of the following movies you will love Superbad:

1. Animal House
2. Revenge of the Nerds
3. American Pie
4. Meatballs
5. Can't Hardly Wait

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg did it again!  "Knocked Up," was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time and Superbad isn't far behind.  The movie follows two High School "nerds" in a quest to score alcohol in hopes of scoring with girls.  While you've seen this plot time and time again Superbad takes it to another level.  The jokes are great and while some are over the top it's the subtle humor in Superbad that really makes the movie.  I...

I have to be the first to admit that I like my comedy with edge holding nothing back leaving all bets off. Be it a dark comedy or one full vile humor that makes me laugh myself to pieces my taste in funny is limitless.

Growing up......who does not remember that trying and difficult time of wanting to fit in, find your way, and filling your life with good friends along the way.Produced by Judd Apatow and co-written by Seth Rogen--both of 40 Yr Old Virgin and Knocked Up fame--Superbad takes you to the coming of age antics of geeks Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera formally of Arrested...

Superbad is a typical teen movie- our heroes Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) are nerdy best friends desperately trying to fit in and get laid in their last days of high school. The two decide the perfect way to prove themselves is to obtain alcohol for a party, especially to impress their respective love interests Jules (Emma Stone) and Becca (Martha MacIsaac). But when cops, party animals, bums, faltering friendship, preposterous fake ID's, car wrecks, and everything in between gets in the way, it leads to a simple, if daunting, errand becoming an escapade that gets more and...

I was not looking forward to this movie. But, I was pleasantly surprised at how funny it was. Most "high school" movies are NOT at all what I remember high school to be like, but, this movie took me right back!
I could feel the awkward, awful feeling of adolescence. The feeling of trying to fit in, but, not quite knowing how to! I remember trying to find a way to buy booze, and get into the party, dreaming of being the Heroine, the life of the party!
It was offensively humorous, terrible language, and disgusting at times, but, it was LOL funny in some parts! I loved the relationship between the two...

This is a terrible movie.  It is long and boring.  Don't waste your time or money.  I was excited about seeing a nice comedy, but within about 5 minutes I realized that I had made a very big mistake.  The focus of the movie is three teens trying to find alcohol so that they have sex with their dream girls.  Harry Potter and Star Wars could both happen if you believe anything in this film.  It's a complete waste of time!

If you are into crude comedies, then I highly recommend 'Superbad'!

This move is hilarious, and will keep you laughing throughout the whole movie. It's one of the best movies since 'The 40 Year Old Virgin'.

The only downfall is, towards the end the movie kind of "slows down", but it is still very funny!

I give it 5 stars!!

A fan of sophomoric humor, I couldn't wait to see this. While I did get my share of laughs, I also had my share of disappointments. The movie dragged on a bit too long, and often just stood still. Overall though, I got enough laughs to override the negative aspects.

At first I thought it would be your typical, trying too hard coming of age story.  Instead, it was hilarious, but the end had a point.  It wasn't just stupid jokes with plot.  I would not recommend this for anyone under 17.  It has some very graphic scenes that aren't child appropriate.

Two high school geeks (Seth and Evan) are out looking to lose their virginity before college.  They aren't popular, so they are ecstatic when Seth's (Jonah Hill) crushes invites them to a party.  What he didn't realize was that Jules (Emma Stone) is expecting them to provide the alcohol for the party (Seth...

The question you will need to ask yourself before choosing to see the comedy ‘Superbad' is how much infantile potty mouth humor can you stand?  My limit apparently, as we learn new things about ourselves, seems to be around 45 minutes worth.  That is an awful lot of infantile potty mouth humor for a man close to twenty years removed from high school, and sadly, the further I get away from those glorious high school years, that number can only go down.  ‘Superbad' is close to TWO HOURS long which is a completely unacceptable number for an infantile potty mouth humored movie... way to long. ... review »

I loved this movie. And you will too! If you can stomach menstrual jokes and other kinds of juvenile humor. I grew up around teenage boys, so this humor is right up my alley.

The movie follows 3 high school seniors who want to lose their virginity by the time they graduate. Yeah, it sounds like a tried and true plot, but this one is so much better! Michael Cera is hilarious as the sarcastic, insecure guy who never gets the girl because he's too scared to make a move. If you want more of him, watch "Arrested Development"...he's so funny! And Jonah Hill is great, too. His humor is a little more mainstream...

Superbad is a coming-of-age cautionary tale about two socially challenged teenage boys about to graduate high school. Theirs is a ridiculously dependent friendship-but now, they've gotten into different colleges and are forced to contemplate life apart. Evan (Michael Cera) is sweet, smart, and generally terrified. Seth (Jonah Hill) is foul-mouthed, volatile, and all-consumed with the opposite sex. This is the story of their misguided attempts to approach the objects of their affections in one panic-driven night...that awful, humiliating night you cherish for the rest of your life.

Must see!!!
