This game has received a lot of hype, and it's mostly deserved.  The mechanics feel great, the Wii-mote sections of the game flow naturally and don't feel forced, and the level variety is incredible.

There are a good twenty hours of gameplay for those who get all the stars, and around thirty to forty for completists.  While the moves and gameplay bring Mario 64 to mind, the level structure is much more linear, so the overall feeling is a mashup of SMB3 and Mario 64, which is not a bad thing at all.

The only weaknesses are the small size of the hub world, and the overall low level of difficulty.  When it comes to plain old fun though, this game can't be beat.  The 2 player co-op mode is interesting because it allows a non gamer to pick up a second remote at any time and help out Mario by freezing enemies and gathering items.  Good for a significant other who pops in and out of the living room, but isn't really in to gaming.

This is one of the few games that I immediately replayed after beating the first time, it's that fun.  There aren't a ton of extra nooks and crannies to explore because of the level design, but with a game this fun and imaginative, it isn't a big deal.  If you have a Wii, you should give this game a try, especially if you enjoyed Mario 64.

you mention 30 to 40 hours for a completist. Not sure I am understanding if you beat the first part of the game (which gives the credit roll as all do when you beat them and can be done with 66 stars collected) or whether you got all 121 stars for beating the game (second half is all purple coins) and the only way to beat the whole game is to collect all 121 coins. Just curious...Ron
