I've never owned an electric blanket before, so I was very excited when I opened up a box containing a dark green Sunbeam electric blanket this Christmas.

My Sunbeam electric blanket is a queen size. A single controller is attached to a very long cord that runs in to the end of and spreads throughout the entire blanket. Two buttons, marked appropriately "on" and "off," are noticeabley labeled on the top of the controller. The knob dial turns left and right to adjust the heat levels of the blanket. Level 1 is the coolest; Level 10 is the warmest.

I live in Chicago and don't like to pay expensive heat bills in the winter; the Sunbeam electric blanket is perfect for frigid nights in a poorly heated and drafty apartment. I keep the blanket running between Level 7 and 10 and never find myself too hot or too cold. I do get a little too warm when I pile a down comforter and fleece blanket on top of the Sunbeam and leave it on any level over than Level 5. Normally, I keep my Sunbeam on top of my down comforter and let the warmth seep through. It is very good for layering in this way.

My Sunbeam electric blanket is made of some sort of fleece. Unfortunately, I could not find its exact material components on the label. I did, however, find the washing instructions. A brief soak is all you need prior to machine washing this blanket. I'm not sure what you do about the cords, though. I doubt it's safe to throw those through the wash, but I will surely find out how washing this blanket goes and update it here.

I give the Sunbeam electric blanket five stars. It's soft and really works! Plus, it's affordable. My gift-giver said he paid around $50 for it. You'll be glad you bought this blanket when you're relaxing in front of the fire sipping cocoa and watching a movie in the middle of the winter. (I will have to let you know how it works during rainy days in the summer at a lower temperature level.)

Ha!The snow won't melt here for months. I do want one. We have a very drafty cold house and I like to be warm but not overly so. Using the blanket on low would be perfect. And I know the new ones don't have a fire risk like the old time electric blankets.

It's like one big, warm cocoon!

Haha. I layer my bed. Sheets, down comforter, fleece blanket, electric blanket. I'm surprised I haven't melted in my sleep yet...

You totally should invest in a Sunbeam! They're really comfy to sleep w/ on a lower temperature. You made it a good point, though. I should probably edit my review and let people know you don't feel the cords through the blanket. You can tell they are there, but it's not an obnoxious or uncomfortable nuisance. Hurry - run to the store and get one before the snow melts (like that'll happen soon.... sigh)!

I have always been afraid of electric blankets. I always think I will set on fire in my sleep. lol. I do have one but only use it when I am awake. I don't like mine though because I can feel the cords and stuff in it. Not comfy. This one sounds great.

Have to deal with the cold somehow... we have an extra thick fleece blanket that keeps us snug at night.

I love my electric blanket too. I went with the queen size even though my bed is regular. That extra overlap is nice.
