I recently purchased the Sunbeam breadmaker, model number 5891. It was relatively inexpensive for all the features it has, and I was excited to get it home and start making some homemade breads. It came with a small receipe booklet and full instructions and list of ingredients needed for all the different types of breads. I went to the store with a list of the ingredients that I would need and hurried home to begin.
I started with a standard loaf of plain white bread. It was very stressed that the amounts of ingredients had to be VERY precise and also VERY important that all the ingredient were fresh, so check those expiration dates everybody!. I therefore was very precise and my ingredients were fresh, as I wanted the bread to come out perfect and also to make sure the machine was working properly without any mistakes on my part. This machine has a window that you can watch the machine in action. It did everything the instuction manual said it would. Even the house smelled great!
Finally the bread was made. But there was one problem, some of you might not think this was such a problem, but for me it kinda was. The bread, looking good and all...tasted more like cake than bread. I then tried the banana bread receipe since I love banana bread and also bought the ingredients for banana bread as well. Once again following the exact receipe I made the bread as well. Again all looked well, but the bread lacked banana flavor. I should have added WAY more bananas than the receipe called for because I could barely taste the bananas. But do I? Could you add extra? The instruction manual says in BOLD letters never to!
I made bread again with fresher ingredients... maybe mine were not fresh enough, if that was possible. And once again the bread tasted more like cake. Do not get me wrong, it was not that it was bad or terrible..it was good if you like bread that has a cake taste. But for me I was disappointed as I was hoping for that fresh bread you can buy in a bakery. If anyone can tell me what went wrong or if there is any solution or trick I just am not knowing kindly write me back.
My breadmaker has been banished to boogeyland, the attic, a place for lost appliances waiting on the yard sale I plan to have one day.
