Not the best quality gate, but it does the job for us.

Comments about Summer Infant Sure and Secure Extra Tall Top of Stairs Gate with Banister Kit:

My son is eight months old currently, and he is starting to crawl, so we needed to do some baby proofing.  Addressing the top of the stairs was our first priority.  I bought the Summer Infant Sure and Secure Extra Tall Top of the Stairs safety gate with Banister Kit kind of as an impulse buy at Babies R Us.  It was so much less expensive than other gates, especially when you factored in having to buy a separate banister kit as most gates do not come with them.  We are renting our house, and it didn't seem like a good idea to drill holes into the banister.

This gate is definitely not the best quality.  You get what you pay for, but it works pretty well for our house.  It is a litle complicated to figure out how to put together, and it isn't the smothest to open and close.  We had to make a few easy modifications to position it properly on the banister.  I took one of my son's wooden blocks and put it under the bottom piece that goes at the base of the banister to raise it up a little so the top part fit properly on the square part of the banister.  If the top of your banister is round, you still have to drill into it, which it does not specify on the outside of the box.  My son hasn't started pulling up on things yet, so we'll see how well it can hold up to his pushing and shoving later on, but for right now, it does the job of easing my mind that he's not going to fall down the stairs!
