Summer Infant Handheld Color Video Monitor Review Summary

In the minds of our protective parents, the Summer Infant Handheld Color Video Monitor is considered the top of the line and “the single best item we purchased.” Equipped with video that is “so clear,” the Summer Handheld Video Baby Monitor provides parents with relief since you can “see the baby without having to go into the room.” The color may not be as great as one might expect but you will still get a “great visual of your baby sleeping.” You can even hook the Summer Handheld Video Monitor up to the TV and watch baby on picture-in-picture. The system comes with two channels to eliminate interference, even though it still does experience some. One of the most notable features of the Summer Handheld Video Baby Monitor is that it has rechargeable batteries, unlike many audio baby monitors. Want to check out other video baby monitors? We bought this monitor when we had our second son.  We didn't have a video monitor for our first son.  It is a nice feature to be able to see the baby without having to go into the room to check on him every time he makes a sound.  This monitor is convenient.  You can mount the camera or just put...

I bought this about 20 months ago, and from the time I got it there was on/off static.  Which is REALLY annoying when you're trying to sleep.  I got to the point where I would turn it off at night.  Then I noticed the unit getting abnormally hot.  I woke up one morning to find it melted, and still...

It fell face down on my bed while I was in the shower with the screen on and when I came out, the screen and plastic around the screen had melted.  The Summer Infant Color Video Monitor gets too hot and may cause a fire.

This is probably the single best item we purchased when our daughter was born.  My husband is a film and television editor, so he insisted on a video monitor.  Even he is very satisfied with the image quality.  The coolest thing is that we can hook it into our television, so when she goes to sleep, we can watch tv and keep her on picture in picture on the top corner of our screen.  It also allows us to check her breathing and sleep position without walking in the room and potentially disturbing her.  Now that she is sleeping through the night, when I wake up at 3am and wonder if she's okay,... review »

We bought this monitor when our child transitioned to a bed from a crib. We used a Graco digital monitor for the first 2 years and that worked fine with the occasional beeping due to interference. We have a wireless internet system and a 6.0 DECT cordless phone. We also had a 2.4 Ghz analog cordless phone. Right away we set up the Summer Infant video monitor in the room along with old Graco digital monitor. We had a lot of static and interference. We still experienced static and interference when we moved the Graco monitor out of the room. We planned to use the Summer Infant video monitor in the... review »

I purchased the Summer Color Video Monitor.  This is my third child and it has been seven years since I had my last child, so needless to say, I have gone through many monitors.  This one ofcourse being the most expensive monitor I have ever purchased.  It was an attractive feature because it has the video monitor so I could actually see my baby which gives me comfort (and I didn't have to get out of bed a thousand times a night to check on the baby).  It worked good for about a nine months and progressively started getting worse. It was great while it worked but I would expect to get more...

I purchased the Summer Infant Handheld Color Video Monitor when my son started climbing out of his crib. I had been hesitant to purchase a video monitor before this because the are so pricey and often get mixed reviews.  I went with this one based on the advice of a cousin who has owned it for 2 years.  I love being able to see what my boys are doing in their room without getting up.  The picture is quite clear although it takes some getting used to if you have never seen you kids with night vision before.  I love that the parent end can be plugged in on my nightstand or travel aroung the house...

The Summer Infant Hand-held Video Monitor with 2.5" screen has been the BEST investment!  I am absolutely addicted!  I didn't have this with my first child, but decided to treat myself with the second.  I am so glad I did.  It is wonderful to be able to check on your baby without having to run up the stairs every time, especially when you're busy chasing a two year old.  The image is great - screen size is big enough.  We do get some interference from our phone and wireless internet, but it's not a big problem.  We actually got a second camera for our 2 year old's room.  You can set one... review »

We purchased this Summer Day/Night video monitor to use in our home when the grandchildren were visiting since most bedrooms were on the second floor.  It is fantastic and saves many trips up and down the stairs.  Everyone rests easier being able to see if the child is actually awake or just making noise in their sleep. I think the children actually sleep longer because we are not constantly opening the door to see if they are awake. Interference is minimal and much less of a problem on this little monitor than it is on the commerical monitor that my husband uses to monitor his business. I like... review »

We did not purchase this until our child was about 10 months old and don't know what my wife and I did without it.   We used to have to try and sneak into her room to check on her to find her awake and then she would start crying.  Now we always know if she is awake or not. Our baby moves around a lot and we can constantly see what she is doing.  It is easy to use and have had no problems with it.  The picture is clear, day or night.  The sound is very good.  We leave it at our bedside at night charged, and have never had a problem with that.  Her Grandpa watches her and he is 60 plus...

I've had this monitor with both children, my son who is now two and my youngest who is now four months. It shows what the baby is doing giving you peace of mind. You can hear the child with any movement or cries. It doesn't pick up breathing too well but I don't keep the monitor too close since I'm afraid the baby could get ahold of the cord. Although, I can see the baby's chest up and down movement showing breathing. It's best to see what's going on in the crib if the monitor is mounted against the wall. In the day time it shows up in color, at night it's in black and white. I would recommend...

As first time parents, my husband and I were a little nervous about how we'd adjust to having our baby girl sleep in her own room. When she outgrew her bassinet at only six weeks, we decided to go out and buy a video monitor to ease our minds in the night (so we wouldn't have to get up to check on her). It was a little expensive, but oh-so-worth-it! I love so much about this monitor: It has a great quality screen and you can even see your baby if her room is completely dark. We love that it is video but still totally portable (I can prop it up on AC power or clip it to me with battery power) and... review »

This monitor is a life saver!  Many people will tell you that it is a waste of money to buy a monitor with a video feature but consider that you can quickly peek at baby to see if she is safe without going into the room.  It has a great power save feature and it automatically recharges itself  when you plug it in. You can control the volume and brightness level and it has 2 channels so you can avoid static.  It does still sometimes have static and you need to reposition it but it is a quick fix.  I do wish it came with two monitors but if I really wanted an extra one I could pay for it but... review »

This is great for children off all ages.  You can buy additional cameras.  We currently only have one; we are using it on the older child (3 1/2 yrs).  The baby is still in our room.  Once we move him to his room we will get another camera for his room.  We can see our son even when there are no lights on in the room.  The hand held monitor is black and white but you can still make out everything so it is okay.  The picture doesn't stay on the screen more then a couple of minutes but there is a button you can push to get the display back up.

Not bad, still not sure if the color part works, haven't seen it project in color yet.  The battery could stay charged longer too.  The camera is ok, I like other camera styles better, for example I had the sight and sound monitor and liked that camera better, but the monitor broke so.... now we have this one.  I like that if the battery is charged that you can carry the monitor around and can see the baby where ever you are in the house.
