I like Sarah Michelle Geller, and I like Alec Baldwin, but when I saw Suburban Girl on the pre-viewed sale rack at my local video store, I kind of thought it would be an odd pairing.  Sarah Michelle Geller is so young looking, she even looks young for her age, and Alec Baldwin is still nice looking and all they just seem really wrong for each other.  But becuse it is a chick flick and because I like both of the lead actors, and because movie was only $4.00 to purchase the DVD I went ahead and got it.

The Plot

Gellar plays Brett a young suburban woman who has moved to New York city and is working her first real job as an associate editor.  Brett has been recently confused by her young adventurous boyfriend who has recently left to go explore his own aspirations, he does not break up with her but just kind of leaves her hanging.

Baldwin plays Archie Knox who is a star in the publishing world.  When Brett notices Archie at a function she is star struck.  She strives to get noticed by the impressive editor .  Of course he notices her because she is young, bright, and attractive.

The two get involved in a relationship and Brett attempts to be mentored by Archie.  Archie introduces her to the glamorous side of the publishing industry, but does not give her the exact kind of help she is craving.  The age difference and the life stages and personal stages they are in, in their lives makes things difficult for the couple; that along with the return of Brett's boyfriend.

Brett is torn by her feelings for Archie, the confusion her boyfriend caused her and for he need to make things on her own.  She also has trouble understanding Archie.

Brett will need to come in to her own and make some grown up decisions in order to get ahead, but does she have what it takes to fight her own feelings and to come out on top.

This is your typical May to December romance kind of movie with the added affect of the younger woman idolizing the older man as well as being attracted to him.  She sees him not only as a lover but someone who can help her to advance her own carreer.  She thinks she can learn from him.  But what she finds is she needs to learn for her self.

I don't think there was a lot of chemistry here between the two characters, and this is pretty much what I expected, I did actually find it a little creepy though it was like Baldwin was sleeping with his daughter.

The movie had some redeaming qualities.  The story line was interesting, and there is some lessons to be learned by the film.  it was not a great movie, but it was not so bad that I just wanted to turn it off eiher.  It held my attention, but it will not be a movie I remember a year from now.

Suburban Girl is OK, it is nothing to write home about, but if you have a lot of spare time on your hands by all means watch it.
