The new Subaru Forester XL LLBean looks great and has good gas mileage.  I liked the laid-back dealership sell style, which was one of the selling points.  If you are looking for safety, this car rates high with Consumer Reports with 5 stars in the crash ratings.  This particular model also has stability around corners as part of its programming.
It sits 2 inches higher off the ground then previous models and comes with temperature controls (set it between 65 and 85) as well as leather seats and a standard sun/moon roof.
And finally although it doesn't come as a hybrid model, it has great gas mileage (between 20 and 30 mpg) which makes for great savings on commutes and trips.
