I've used various astringents on my face since I was a teenager. One brand that I have often purchased is Suave Refreshing Facial Astringent. Suave markets their products as the less expensive alternative to the higher end beauty products, but with the same quality. Usually this claim is hit or miss. I've had a few bad experiences with some Suave products, but how wrong can you go with facial astringent? In a pinch you can pick up a bottle of witch hazel for under a dollar, so producing a cheap astringent isn't exactly rocket science.

About Suave Refreshing Facial Astringent
The bottle is a frosted plastic with a white top and with blue colored astringent inside. The cost for the 10 fl. oz. bottle is around $2.50 which is somewhat less than you'd pay for other astringents on the market. Suave Refreshing Facial Astringent has been dermatologist tested and is hypo-allergenic. Suave claims that this astringent cleanses as well as other leading brands and that it invigorates and tones to leave skin clean, fresh and healthy.

There are some warnings that you should heed. Being as it's mostly alcohol this product is flammable, and should be treated carefully. You should also keep this product away from children. Finally, if your skin breaks out or becomes inflamed while using this product, discontinue use immediately and contact Suave. I have very sensitive skin and I haven't had any issues with it, so I don't suspect that problems with this astringent are very common.

Using the Product
This astringent is just like most other astringents I've used. It flows freely, being so heavily alcohol-based. It cleans residue off my face very well. The fresh scent is heavily tinged with alcohol. Wiping the product over my face it tingles and burns and I can feel my skin tightening but I have never noticed any real irritation with using this product.

How Well It Works
Suave lives up to their promise. This product does work every bit as well as the leading brands that I've used. It removes dirt effectively and easily and with a nice smell.

Cat's Bottom Line
I like Suave Facial Astringent although to be honest, I prefer the smell of Burt's Bees Garden Tomato astringent more. This is a high quality product however, and at a bargain price. I can highly recommend Suave Refreshing Facial Astringent to anyone looking for a good, inexpensive astringent for their daily facial care regimen.
