OK, so my daughter wants long hair, and like most kids, getting her to take proper care of it is a struggle, so we bought some of this cool smelling (and yes it does smell like fresh watermelons) shampoo which is supposed to be non-irritating to eyes and have conditioner built in and all that good stuff. My daughter likes the smell, although Suave does have other scents and formulas in the kids line, she picked this one. Yes it is economical to use-especially when kids seem to need a handful to do what a dollup will do...and yes it is gentle on the eyes, (Lord knows, I would hear about it otherwise). It sudses up quite nicely, and it most definitely cleans-squeaky clean....but I don't want to give the impression that its conditioning qualities are anything to write home about...We still have the tears after the shower while we try to sort the tangles out of wet hair with the wide tooth comb, and when her hair is dry, it seems almost overdry and brittle..either there is a shampoo residue that isn't completely rinsing away (perhaps the conditioner element) while coats the hair making it feel coarser and stiffer, or it really is over stripping the hair as well as cleaning (haven't figured out exactly which.) Also discovered another drawback...the fruit scent really lingers even after the hair is dry, and my daughter is literally swarmed with biting insects. especially in the hairline area (not something she appreciates) We used about half the bottle and I switched her over to something else, and noticed an almost immediate difference (just one or two washings) in her hair being softer, less likely to snarl, shinier, and more manageable, so I am definitely thinking that there is some kind of coating or build up being left behind by the Suave product. I only paid about $1.50 for the bottle, and I can't fault the cleaning, but savings just weren't the tears and fighting to get the hair combed after shower or brushed in between washings. My daughter showers almost every day, so perhaps the build up issue came about more quickly, and isn't even a real issue is your kids don't wash their hair that frequently...I put the remainder of the bottle in reserve in the linen closet and it will be emergency rations when I run out of shampoo-and probably only used in the winter because of the bug issue.
