On a recent vacation to Hickory, North Carolina, I forgot my own shampoo and had to use my husband's. The shampoo he brought was in a travel container, which didn't have any label so I had no idea what I was using. The shampoo smelled good, without smelling perfumey or flowery, and also without having a "manly" scent to it. I liked it! It felt great on my scalp, it lathered very nicely, and left my hair feeling clean. My hair smelled GREAT after I shampooed, and I made several comments about how great the shampoo made my hair feel.
AFTER the fact, my husband asked me where I got the shampoo. When I told him I used his travel container, he began laughing and told me that I had just used men's shampoo. I was shocked! I always thought that a man's shampoo would smell....well, like cologne or something. But this one didn't. What surprised me even more was one he told me that the men's shampoo I had been using was made by Suave.
Suave Deep Cleansing Shampoo For Men exceeded any expectations I would have ever had for a Suave shampoo. Suave is a great "budget" shampoo, as they sale for much less than most any other brand of shampoos and conditioners. However, I have never really considered Suave to be a quality product. Honestly, my motto has always been, "You get what you pay for".
I continued to use Suave Deep Cleansing Shampoo for Men throughout the remainder of our vacation. My hair continued to smell great, and always felt very clean after I used it. However, what I noticed after a few nights of using Suave Deep Cleansing Shampoo for Men was that my hair began to feel very weighed down. I didn't contribute it to the shampoo at first, but towards the end of our trip, I began to put it together. While I really was surprised at how great this shampoo smelled, and how clean it made my hair feel immediately after washing, it WAS adding some build up to my hair. After I would blow dry my hair, I could feel the difference even more.
Once we arrived home, I discontinued using Suave Deep Cleansing Shampoo for Men, and in an effort to strip out the build up out of my hair, I shampooed with Neutrogena Shampoo - Anti Residue Formula. Although you aren't supposed to use it more than once a week, I used it two days in a row and saw an immediate difference in the look and feel of my hair. The build up from the Suave shampoo was gone.
Now, while I felt a build up in my hair from using Suave Deep Cleansing Shampoo for Men, my husband has never experienced it. Perhaps this is because I have long hair and need to use a lot more of the shampoo than he does? I'm not really sure, but I can honestly say that this is one of the best shampoos that I have smelled that wasn't one of my own. (I'm usually rather picky about the shampoo I use and prefer brands like Redken)
Would I use Suave Deep Cleansing Shampoo for Men again? - Sure I would. If I needed to shampoo my hair for one night, or even two, I'd certainly use this shampoo again. I wouldn't use it for a long period of time like I did on vacation, but it was fine to use for a few nights.
Oddly enough, Suave Deep Cleaning Shampoo for Men claims to:
I thought it was ironic that this particular shampoo claims to remove build up from your hair, when I felt that it added it to mine. Perhaps it is formulated for a man's hair type? Possibly. As I said, my husband didn't seem to have any problems with it. Also, the claim that the shampoo smells masculine is debatable. It certainly did NOT smell feminine or like perfume. It isn't so many that a woman couldn't use it, but it does smell incredibly clean and fresh.
Suave Deep Cleansing Shampoo for Menis suitable for all hair types. To use, simply wet hair thorougly and massage a small amount into the hair. This shampoo laters very well, so you will not need to use a lot of the product. After you're through lathering, rinse well. Tip: It's advised to always wash your hair twice. The first time removes oil and build up, the second shampoo is what gets hair clean.
Price - Very affordable. For a large bottle of shampoo (14.5 ounces) you can expect to pay less than $ 2.50. Because you don't use much shampoo at a time, one bottle should last you a very long time.
Bottom Line - I would recommend this shampoo. For a budget shampoo, I thought that it was a very good deal and smelled excellent. Ladies, you can use this one too on occasion, just don't use it for more than a few nights at a time.
