I think I am the only person who had the worst experience with this particular humidifer. I added this Germ Guardian Humidifer on my baby registry and received it as a baby shower gift. I liked the way it looked and the size of the model was perfect. Two of my friends-both in the health industry- reccomended this product to me as well. I am sorry to say that this humidifer was the most annoying little humidifer! The water had to be constantly refilled and although it promised to be germ-free I would see a layer of black mold and filth growing from where the water was poured in. We had constant problems with it after only 3 months of use. My husband cleaned it regularly and as time went by the effectiveness of the "humidity" stream would get less and less. One day, it finally just stopped working completely within 6 months- KAPUT. I know it has a 1 yr warranty- but at the time with a newborn baby on hand- it was too much of a hassle to get a replacement. I honestly don't know if we had a defective model or what exactly the issue was with it but it deterred me from wanting to get a humidifier of this brand. I am not a fan of Germ Guardian after this experience.

The Germ Guardian is great! It doesn't need any extra filters, etc. and it doesn't harbor germs.  The sound is next to silent and there is a great stream of steam coming out of the top.  The water tank is clear so you can see if you are running low.  We have an 8 hour and a 55 hour machine.

When we were waiting for our first child to arrive, like everyone else we had a gift registry.  We chose whatever humidifier was in the store - probably some cute animal shaped one.  Nobody bought it for us.  That ended up being just fine because my husband discovered the Germ Guardian shortly after our daughter was born. What drew us to the Germ Guardian was the germ fighting ultraviolet light.  When the humidifier sucks in the air, it purifies it before sending it back out as mist.  We like knowing that at least the air we are breathing in is being cleansed of yucky stuff.  Overall, we have been pleased with the Germ Guardian.  It is very quiet and compact.  We still have the one we bought over two years ago for our daughter and it is still running after lots of continual use.  Sometimes when we cut it on, it makes a funny noise as it is "warming up," but once it gets going, it works just fine and is quiet.  We have a second one in our bedroom that we use occasionally.   The only downside is that sometimes the blue light (although killing germs!) is a little bright and it can disrupt my ability to fall asleep.   I cannot say that it works better than other humidifiers because we do not have any other at home to which we can compare.
