Stuart Little is one of our familys' favorite movies. It is based on the character in the book Stuart Little by E.B. White who brought us the all time favorite, Charlotte's Web. Stuart Little is a combination of live action and computer generated animation with an excellent balance.

Perhaps part of our fondness for Stuart Little is because it is a beautiful story about adoption. We are an adoptive family but of course we adopted precious children and the Little family adopts, well... a precious mouse.

Stuart Little has an excellent cast of actors. Geena Davis, from the series Commander in Chief and the movies Beetle Juice, A League of Their Own and best of all, Thelma and Louise is perfect as Mrs. Eleanor Little. She's so able to pull off that "it doesn't even occur to me that it's a little unusual to adopt a mouse" personality. If you love Hugh Laurie as the brilliant and brutally honest doctor in House, you'll be amazed at his range as he embodies the perfect father and "you look lovely dear" devoted husband. Jonathan Lipnicki, who caught everyone's attention as the cute kid in Jerry McGuire and provided the voice for the baby Tiger in Doctor Doolittle, plays Stuart's brother, George. Unlike his parents, George does think it is a bit strange to adopt a mouse. Stuart wasn't exactly what he had in mind for a "little" brother.

The voice talents are also wonderful. Michael J. Fox, who entered our living rooms and our hearts as Alex in "Family Ties" and got our best wishes as he left "Spin City" to fight Parkinson's and champion for Parkinson's research, gives Stuart a quirky but lovable voice. Nathan Lane, who also voiced Timon in Lion King, George in the series George and Martha and who always puts a capital F in Funny, brings hilarity to this movie as Snowbell the cat. Snowbell doesn't think Stuart should be family, he thinks Stuart should be dinner!

Snowbell tries to get rid of Stuart by setting up a "your real parents are here to get you" con reminiscent of Annie. Of course, in the end Snowbell does the right thing and through this crisis, George does come to bond with his new "little" brother.

Awards for Stuart Little:

Stuart Little was nominated for an Oscar and won many awards including a Young Actor Award and Young Star Award (Jonathan Lipnicki), the Monitor Award for best 3-D Animation and the Golden Satellite Award for Best Motion Picture Mixed Media.

My Viewpoint:

Stuart Little is a great family movie that is funny and sweet and can be enjoyed over and over.
