Stuart Little 2

Columbia Pictures, 2002

Rated PG

My whole family enjoyed the first Stuart Little movie. Stuart Little 2 took a great dish and Bam, bumped it up notch! In the first movie, the Little family adopts Stuart, a mouse, based on the character from E.B. White's book Stuart Little.

The great actors and voice talents were all back. Geena Davis stars as Mrs. Eleanor Little and Hugh Laurie of the hit series House plays the devoted Dad. The adorable Jonathan Lipnicki is George, Stuart's older brother. Michael J. Fox gives Stuart a curious and lovable human voice and the brilliant Nathan Lane brings in the humor as the voice of Snowbell the house cat.

Stuart Little 2 brings in some new characters and voices as well. Melanie Griffith, of Working Girl and one of my all time favorites, Nobody's Fool, voices Margolo, a feathered friend who flutters into Stuart's life. James Wood creeps in as the voice of the villainous falcon.

Settled in his new family, Stuart is a skate boarding, soccer playing, convertible driving, cool dude. However, his mother is a bit overprotective and his brother is busy with his own friends so when the beautiful Margolo arrives, Stuart is quite smitten. This movie centers around a great journey as Stuart goes searching for his new friend, Margolo, who he believes is in trouble. Melanie Griffith gives Margolo such a sweet, innocent voice but is Margolo really a victim of the viscous falcon or is she part of the con? Will Snowbell, a cat forced to accept a mouse as "family" bond with Stuart? Much of the adventure takes place in and around Central Park which was really fun for my daughter to recognize places she'd been.

Stuart Little 2 is a combination of live action and computer-generation. I was really impressed with the animation in the first Stuart Little but the animation in Stuart Little 2 was really over the top.

Entertainment Weekly said it well:

...The animation is so vibrant that you can practically reach out and touch the fur and feathers...."

Awards for Stuart Little 2:

Visual Effects Society Award for Best Character in Animation
Award of Excellence by the Film Advisory Board

My Viewpoint:

Stuart Little 2 is even better than the first. The subject matter is a bit more mature than the first but this is still a fun movie the whole family can enjoy. I haven't seen Stuart Little 3 yet but hope I to. If anyone has seen it, I'd love to read your Viewpoint!

Great review, my girls didn't get into it, I think it's just too 'grown up" for the little ones. And Dev is too old. . . so I guess it will be awhile before I can give it another try.
