My daughter is an amazing musician.  She has a voice that is angelic.  I have been told that she sings like a nightingale.

For Christmas our family surprised her with a new (old) piano.  We had an old bang upon piano that was given to us years ago, and my children have all banged on it and learned to play a tune or two.  My daughter however, has stuck to her piano lessons and learned to play and recently has started accompanying herself when she sings.  So we decided to trade our old piano for a newer and better one.

We found a Story and Clark piano, built in Boston in the 1950s in pristine condition.  We had it delivered on Christmas Eve.  It has an oak case.  I had my daughter out shopping while it was being delivered and set up.  When we returned she did not go into the music room to notice the change in pianos.  I was trying to keep her from the music room.  When I was not looking she wandered into sit at the piano and I heard her cry out in surprise when she saw that in place of the old broken down piano was a new (old ) piano.

She immediately sat down and started to play.  The sound quality of this piano was so different compared to the old one.  My husband and sons and I stood and listened as my daughter began to play.  She played "O Holy Night" and as she played, she began to sing.  I stood in the doorway of the piano room and listened as my daughter played and sang.  I watched my daughter adoringly play the new piano and I heard her amazing voice and I began to cry.  My daughter finally had the tool she needed to really grow as a musician.

As the day went on, our house filled up with visitors and my daughter often slipped away from the crowd and went into the music room to play on her new piano.  The sound of her playing would drift out into the living room and friends and family would stop talking and smile at each other at the sounds of her playing.  Once again she sang "O Holy Night", and I looked over to see the tears rolling down the faces of grandmother and aunt.  I again began to cry, imagining how proud my mother would be to hear her beautiful grand daughter playing the piano and coming into her talent.

Everyday since Christmas Eve my daughter has played the piano.  I have been listening to her play and learn new songs.  She has fallen in love with her piano and I am so happy for her.  I feel blessed.

Our daughter played as well. We got her (free - just had to get it home and have it tuned) a 100 year old used upright. It worked. I hated to sell it when we moved. I'm happy for you. The music is beautiful. Jo

I've always wanted to learn how to play the piano. I guess maybe when I retire? Thanks for sharing such a touching story!
