SEAGATE 500GB Black Armor Ext. drive - ST905003BPA1E1-RK ST905003BPA1E1-RK 500 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive
Seagate's new 500GB BlackArmor PS 110 external hard drive ($160) provides trustworthy storage and data backup solutions for the consumer who needs more space. The shape and design of the drive isn't a far departure from the , another thin external HDD from Seagate. The PS 110 isn't the cheapest drive out there, but the ample backup software suite speaks to the value of this drive. If you're craving more portable storage for your indispensable data, you'll appreciate the versatility of the Seagate BlackArmor PS 110 hard drive.
Design
The Seagate BlackArmor PS 110 replicates the same thin profile...
iOmega eGo Portable Hard Drive
Don't be fooled by the eye-catching glittery paint covering the body--the drive features Iomega's rugged Drop Guard feature that protects the drive from up to a 52-inch drop. We like that all of drives in Iomega's current lineup include this built-in protection, as external storage devices tend to get thrown around more often than other accessories.
The physical design of the drive sticks to the basic rectangular external hard-drive design that we've seen repeatedly. We can't fault Iomega for adhering to the formula, but with other companies like Transcend and their pushing the design envelope,...
review »Western Digital Western Digital My Book World Edition Network Attached Storage
As the name suggests, the My Passport Studio has about the same footprint as an actual passport and is about three times thicker. It's also very lightweight at 6.7 ounces. The drive looks somewhat like a book, with a sleek aluminum casing that takes the place of the cover, and black plastic taking the place of the pages.
The My Passport features dual interfaces: FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. It doesn't offer FireWire 800, which is a bit disappointing as this option allows for the highest possible speed for a pocket-size external hard drive. On the plus side, it has a capacity gauge. It's just a ballpark...
review »Seagate 250GB FreeAgent Desktop USB
The FreeAgent Go is one of the thinnest mobile hard disks we've reviewed; the size makes it easy to throw in your bag on the run. Its official measurements are 0.5 inch high by 3 inches wide by 5 inches long and only weighs 5.6 ounces. The multicapacity drives (250GB, 320GB, 500GB) come dressed in silver, black, blue, or red models, but the blue and red versions are only available in 320GB. We're not sure why, since they use the same cases.
Aside from their slim figure, the shape of the FreeAgent Go looks like a lot of other external drives. The top of the rectangular case has a brushed metal finish...
review »Transcend StoreJet 25 Mobile 500GB USB 2.0 2.5'' External w/One Touch Backup (Red) 500 GB Hard Drive
Thanks to its military-grade ruggedized exterior, the 320GB Transcend StoreJet 25 Mobile($95) is the ideal solution for on-the-go digital pack rats who don't want to baby their gadgets. It incorporates three layers of antishock protection and conforms to military-grade drop standards, meaning you won't have to worry about losing your data as it's rolling around in your bag. In addition to the tough exterior, the drive also stands out as the top finisher in our HDD speed and cost per gigabyte tests. As usual, though, the drive is lacking FireWire, which is the only hiccup that prevents us from awarding...
review »Transcend StoreJet 25F 500 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive
The 2.5-inch external hard drive is a simple creature; it's necessary in a world of finite storage space, and although some manufacturers like offer a extra features like preloaded backup software, we also recommend the $175 Transcend StoreJet 25F. This stylish device cuts out all the filler and leaves a lightweight, easy-to-use 500GB external hard drive that transfers data quickly and won't leave a flaming hole in your wallet.
Transcend's StoreJet comes in 250GB, 320GB, and 500GB capacities with one uniform design for all three models. While some of you may prefer the bright colors and matte details...
Seagate Expansion External 1TB Hard Drive
DON'T GET ME STARTED.
THIS DRIVE IS A PIECE OF MOLDYCHEESE BAKING IN THE SAHARAN SUN FOR TWO WEEKS AND THEN PACKAGED AND PRICED AT SOME RIDICULOUSLY LOW PRICE.
MINE DIED IN THREE HOURS. HAD ONLY COPIED 27 GIGS OF DATA.
FORTUNATELY, THE STORE WHERE I PURCHASED IT WAS HONEST ENOUGH TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT MOST OF THE SEAGATE EXPANSION DRIVES THEY SOLD WERE RETURNED AS DEFECTIVE
SEAGATE USED TO STAND FOR QUALITY. NOW IT IS A RIP-OFF: COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE. SADLY, MOST OF THE HARD DRIVE MANUFACTURERS ARE DUMBING DOWN THEIR PRODUCTS TO MAXIMIZE PROFIT.
THE SOLUTION: I PURCHASE ONLY 'ENTERPRISE-QUALITY'...
