In my senior year of high school a representative from CUNY (the City University of New York) made a reference to Stony Brook that it was a "party school...the people that flunk out end up in CUNY." Little did I know he was right. I did flunk out, but not exactly. I was not kicked out by Stony Brook, but rather I was pressured into going to Queens College by my father. Stony Brook has a great deal of distractions on campus, and dorming was not the right epxerience for me. That's why I am disappointed that Queens College has choosen to build hostels on its campus, which will certainly deteriorate the quality of learning there. Stony Brook is diverse, and there are options for kosher, halal, and vegetarian dietary options. It was Professor Sara Lipton in my HIST 101 that advised me to become a history major in my freshman year. I took the course as a requirement, and it was with that class that I fell in love with history. There is a free shuttle bus that goes to and from the Long Island Railroad, as well as across the campus - which is huge. It is Stony Brook which makes a tiny village in Suffolk County the bustling centre of academic action in Long Island.
