Although I have been a student of makeup art for many years, one of the companies that I have just become acquainted with this past year has been STILA. The area where I live was in the cosmetic stone age as the only makeup besides drug store level makeup was the standard department store makeup lines such as Lancome, Clinique, Elizabeth Arden, Estee Lauder, and Chanel. Even Christian Dior had left our area.
In the last few years, two additional cosmetic stores have set up shop in our area, and finally I have gotten access to try out many new cosmetic lines that I only could hear others talk about online.
One of those lines has been STILA. Although it recently has been bought for a second time in the last few years, I managed to get a hold of some Stila products which are worth taking a look at. One of these products is the STILA PRECIOUS PEARL PALETTE.
WHAT IS THE STILA PRECIOUS PEARL PALETTE LIKE?
First priced at $40, the STILA PRECIOUS PEARL palette is a really lovely set of eyeshadows. The palette is a metal container inste with 12 rectangles of mother of pearl which makes it look REALLY classy.
When open there is a long mirror the entire length of the cover, and inside are six pads of color with a total of 10g or .35oz of product. There is no applicator in this palette.
WHAT COLORS ARE IN THIS PALETTE?
The colors in the STILA PRECIOUS PEARL PALETTE (my descriptions) are:

HOW WELL DOES THIS PALETTE PERFORM?
The STILA PRECIOUS PEARL PALETTE is supposed to have some pearl dust in it- genuine pearl dust. I am not sure about that, but I can say that these shadows are very well pigmented and they stay in place very well over a good eye shadow base. I use Too Faced Shadow Insurance.
There is a lot to work with in this palette, and I find that when I want a softer look, that this is one that I reach for. Although it is not something that I use constantly, I must say that it is a fantastic palette to travel with if I need pastel colors- especially when I wear the softer colors of early summer.
The shadow stays on very well and has a lovely translucency which looks wonderful on aging eyelids as well as younger ones. The crushed pearl is supposed to soften lines and aging spots. I can say that it does look beautiful in aging lids, whether it is the pearl or not, I can not say.
The finish is what I would call a satin finish- not as shimmery as a usual shimmer shadow, but certainly not as flat as mattes or dull finish shadows. I would not call this a highly shimmery shadow although in the photos it does look like it is shinier than it is.
FINAL COMMENTS
You can get the STILA PRECIOUS PEARL PALETTE for only $20 at the time of this review at www.sephora.com. I am not sure of other locations.
The STILA PRECIOUS PEARL PALETTE makes a wonderful gift. The vintage style metal compace inlaid with mother of pearl really makes it look special. I would think that many older women would also enjoy it although it is appropriate for younger women as well.
I especially love the gold ivory color, the pinks, the green and the navy is rather unique and a color that is hard to find.
Would I pay full price for this palette? No. However, at the $20 price it is a lovely gift and the quality is very nice.
