Sterilite Touch Top Wastebasket Model1097 —

When I recently bought a home with a white kitchen I realized I needed a better trash can to match everything else. After some shopping around I found the Sterilite #1097 48 quart trash can. It is white (so matched the kitchen) and has some good features as follows:

  • Flat back
  • Touch Top Lid
  • 48 quart capacity
  • Inner liner holder
  • Lid open to 90 degree angle

I like the flat back since this lets me push the trash can up close to the wall which saves some room. Also, the touch-top lid is convenient, although I worry about how long it will work. The size is good too - for 1 to 2 people.

In my experience this trash can won't get too dingy looking either if you wash it from time to time. Most Sterilite products I have owned have an 'average' durability. They aren't quite a long-lasting as Rubbermaid but seem to hold up a respectable amount of time. The bag liner is somewhat visible from the outside if you don't carefully tuck it in. That doesn't bother me though!

I paid $10.99 for this kitchen trash can at Target. There were quite a few other models to pick from but the Sterilite Touch Top 48 quart trash can was a good balance of quality to price. I also liked it's features - especially the lid which prevents the dog from poking his head in there. I don't hesitate to recommend this trash can for kitchens, but have some concerns about how long the pop-up lid will work. Overall 4 stars.

Thanks for the comment. I don't know why stainless steel is so popular for trash cans. Everyone who touches it leaves their fingerprints for all the world to see.

I have this and it is working well for us. I like that it is easy to clean. I used to have a stainless steal trash can and it was awful trying to keep it clean.

Thanks for the note. One of the trahs baskets in the store had a broken lid which made me concerned. Hopefully it will hold up.

My in-laws have had this one for a couple years, and the touch top is still working just fine...hopefully yours will hold up just as well. Great review!
