I will stick with the other containers out there!

I liked the idea of the Sterilite Hinged Storage Box. It was a good size and I thought I would try a couple to store some stuff in our garage in. I will say that they fit a decent amount of stuff inside. The hinged top was nice at first, but after awhile I felt like it didn't seal stuff in as much as other lids did. It also curves in a little on the bottom, so things don't fit in as easily. I would also like to say that one of these bins of ours has cracked and chipped off. The other thing is that unless you have all of the same container these don't stack very well. Don't get me wrong the container isn't horrible. I don't see myself buying anymore of these in the future though. They were just kind of awkward to me and didn't work as well as I had hoped. I will say that other people have liked these a lot more than me, so I guess it depends on your preference. If you are going to buy these I would go to a store to do it, so that you can look at them for yourself and decide. Not bad, but not anywhere close to my favorite.

Sterilite Hinged Storage Boxes: Transparent medium duty storage

4

In a previous review of Rubbermaid Roughneck Totes I noted that two of the shortcomings of an otherwise excellent product included the inability to see what was in the tote and that the lids were detachable and therefore lose-able. An alternative for us is the Sterilite Hinged Storage Box. We've purchased both the 62 Quart and 48 Quart models. While like most homeowners with children we're always in need of storage containers to keep things organized, our immediate need for this type of container was due to my wife's craft business. She designs and creates decorated clothing for pre-schoolers through young mommies. Participating in craft & holiday shows on weekends requires us to pack and transport an inventory of items making sure that the containers we use keep the items intended for sale clean and ready to display. We purchased these Sterilite Hinged Storage Boxes as an alternative to the Rubbermaid Roughnecks. The 62-Quart model at 24" x 17" x 17" stacks well and holds a good load of merchandise (or anything else). We had no trouble stacking them 2-high in our SUV or 4-high in our garage. **What I like** The Sterilite Hinged Storage Boxes are transparent allowing us to quickly identify the contents without having to open the containers or resorting to taped labels. I like that. It saves us time. The boxes have a pair of hinged interleaved tops. Tops don't go missing and are easier to keep clean. Again, this is a major time-saver. When necessary the Sterilite Hinged Storage Boxes can be cleaned easily with a garden hose and allowed to dry. **What I don't like** I'm not sure of the type of plastic used in these transparent storage totes, but they are significantly more fragile than the tough thick polyethylene used by Rubbermaid. We've cracked a number of these boxes over the years, requiring a replacement. This has happened most frequently to the containers carrying equipment. The containers seem less resilient and don't take hard knocks as well as the Rubbermaid product. For the average homeowner though who is looking for convenient, medium duty storage this shouldn't be too much of a practical shortcoming. The combination of a reasonably sturdy transparent storage container with a hinged top make it a good storage solution for most. For general medium duty storage I can recommend Sterilite Hinged Storage Boxes.

These storage boxes are great!

I have used these over the years to store baby/kids clothes in and I love them! They look great and are durable! They are a bit more expensive than others but they are definitely more durable. I love how the lid is attached and isn't going anywhere. :) This type of storage box is what I bought first and they have held up so well! No cracking or breaking! They also stack beautifully and fit into most standard size closets. They also have very convenient handles and are easy to pick up. These storage boxes are reasonably priced and even more so if you can get them on sale. I have not used them for kids toys but think they'd work great as a toy container. I would buy more of these again and highly recommend them to anyone who is needing storage boxes.

Sterilite Hinged Storage Box - Nice to See What You've Got!

I have a big batch of Sterilite 62-Quart Hinged Storage Boxes keeping not only my fabric inventory clean (and easy to figure out), but holding extra samples, craft supplies, quilts (I live in a dry state), research materials and much more. We've even stored extra veggies like potatoes in a pinch, with good results. The plastic is heavy-duty and stays clear (though a little opaque). In general, it holds up well -- though we have had at least two crack when hit from the side with a heavy object. I don't know how a hinged lid would hold up the weight without smashing or collapsing -- but it does! (How is this possible?) I also like the look of several of these stacked together -- looks very efficient, organized, and the colored tops give a hit of color that's very attractive. Nice product.

I am the Storage Queen

I have a LOT of stuff. So does my husband. It wasn't so bad when we lived at our homes and had stuff scattered throughout the house. But now we live in an apartment. Our living area was getting so filled with junk. We tried throwing some things away- but others we just couldn't. So we broke down and got a storage unit. Having seen one of those investigative reports years ago about mice eating poeple's boxes and items in storage, I wanted everything in plastic containers. We went to the store and bought a bunch of grey Rubbermaid storage containers. We started filling them up and realized that we didn't buy enough. When we went back, they didn't have any more Rubermaid ones, so we bought the Sterlite Hinged ones instead.I do a lot of crafts and since we didn't have the room for all my supplies at home, I had to pack them up for storage.  I loved the idea of being able to see into the box without having to open it, so I used all the Sterlite ones for my supplies. They can hold a lot and the hinged top is very durable when you put heavy stuff on top of it- more durable then the Rubbermaid ones which sagged a little in the middle. The one thing that I did not like about it is the bottom- It is not flat. The bottom has a curved bump shape to it. You have to play around with things to sometimes fit right because of that bump. I have been told that I am ridiculously good when it comes to packing or organizing- for example, when my husband packs the car for vacation you cannot see out the back window; but when I repack it, you can manage to fit in 3 more suitcases. But I couldn't find a good way of using this bump space. For my books and Christmas ornaments and anything else that lays more flat, I use the Rubbermaid ones. Otherwise, I prefer the clear and tough Sterlite ones.

The Sterilite Hinged Lid Storage Box is Great For Ornaments

While a college student, my mom made me a nice blanket that was multi-colored with a nice design on it. In order for me to transport it easily, she also purchased a nice Sterilite container that I could use to transport it along with a couple of other blankets across the state. This was indeed a great idea, because not only could I keep the blankets in perfect (and a clean) condition, but I would have a nice storage container when I decided to put the blankets to use. The container itself has a large capacity of 62 quarts (59 liter) of space, and measures out to about 21 inches of length by 17 inches in width and stands about 17 inches tall. To be sure, it is a pretty good sized storage container. The entire container is built of a thick durable plastic, that gives the container more depth and thickness to help make it last a longer life. It's not entirely square, as there is a top to bottom groove (indent) underneath the handles on each side that help to provide more space for your hands and arms as you are carrying it around the house or during a move. Those handles are given an extra thickness that helps to keep the container even more stable, and gives the sides of the box a durability to protect against snapping handles or cracked plastic if you are lugging it around a lot. One of the best features though, has to be the hinged lid, that has a curved split down the middle (lengthwise) that unfolds to reveal the contents. The lid overlays itself on some parts so that when the hinges come together it locks the container. This is a good feature, because it can keep the little ones from getting into the storage too easily. This Sterilite box comes with a thick green lid on the top, but other than that, the rest of the storage box is transparent. This makes it easier to determine what you have stored in the box so that you don't have to go digging through everything in your closets when you are looking for an article you put away for winter or a long period of time. Being 62-quarts in size, gives this storage box a lot of flexibility when it comes to what you can store inside. As I mentioned before, it is the perfect place to put blankets that you want to store for long periods of time, or even sheets that you want to keep organized in one of your closets. It can be used to store toys, for tools in the shed, or even in the pantry for extra cereal boxes that you purchased on sale. One of the items that Sterilite recommends is to store your ornaments in the box, as it provides ample space to not only store, but separate and protect those precious treasures. I have found that this particular Sterilite storage box holds up well when compared to the many Rubbermaid products that I have around the house. The plastic is made of a durable combination, and has held up well over time, leaving me without a single complaint on how it performs as a storage unit. The ideas of what you can store within the container are only limited by your ideas, and thus this container provides many different uses depending on how you want it to work for you. I have been using this container for at least 5 or so years now, and have found it to be a great one to place just about anything inside, and stack at the back of one of my closets. When I pull it out, it is presentable enough to travel in sight, and it is one that I will keep depending upon to fulfill some of my storage needs. I highly recommend this strong and durable Sterilite 62-Quart Storage box, and suggest that those in the market for a container of this size to give this one a try.
