My husband and I searched for the perfect mattress for us for 1 year and a half. We went to Art Van, Gardner White, Macy's, and other local mattress shops. We also considered the Sleep Number bed, which online I mostly hear bad stories about so we decided not to spend a fortune on that.
I ended up being put on bedrest 2 months ago due to preterm labor with my 3rd pregnancy so I went on a mission on my laptop to find the perfect mattress for us that would LAST a long time. I pretty much decided that we needed a latex foam mattress.
Memory foam, to me, was not comfortable (to hard at first when you sit or lay on it) gets too hot, and don't like the way you sink in and then can't get out. BTW we hate those tempurpedic pillows we paid $150 for.
I didn't want to get a spring mattress because all the ones we ever slept on squeaked and never held up very long. Plus they only have 10 year warranties with really only about 5-7 year life out it (maybe even less).
We didn't want anything with a pillow top because, as I found out online, they pretty much just beef up a mattress with a bunch of cheap padding that ends up sagging and looking like you got holes in your mattress. The best thing to do, if you want your mattress soft, is to buy the plushest version you can without a pillow top, and add a padded mattress topper to your liking.
So, what I found is the best 100% latex foam mattress (because you have to ask the salesmen to show you the specs, they may tell you that the mattress is latex foam, but it may really only have 1" of latex foam layer over springs or memory foam or something. BELIEVE me, we found this out at Macy's and Art Van) Anyways, I found out that Sealy has a 100% latex foam mattress called Sealy Springfree. Sealy also makes Stearns and Foster, so their 100% latex foam mattress is called Stearns and Foster Tropical Oasis. Sealy also made a 100% latex foam mattress line for Macy's called Sealy Purembrace, but it is the exact same as Springfree and Tropical Oasis, just a higher price. We saved about $700 buying the Tropical Oasis at a small local mattress store, over getting the Purembrace from Macy's.
Anyway, WE LOVE OUR LATEX FOAM MATTRESS!!! My husband is in construction and has back problems, his back does not hurt in the morning anymore like it did with our old mattress! It keeps our backs and shoulder aligned and my hips from hurting! And since I have to do a lot of sitting in bed (being on bed rest still) my butt doesn't hurt anymore from sitting all day! The motion transfer is all but non existant, I can't say enough about this bed!
We got the Stearns and Foster Saybrook Point, which is the plushest version you can buy without being a pillowtop. It is equal to the Sealy Springfree Rivercrest and the Sealy Purembrace Autumn Garden. We highly recommend this mattress!!!
By the way, the nice store owner at the local mattress shop where we bought it (Lakeside Mattress in Metro Detroit) gave us 2 free King size pillows that we love! (My husband asked for them), but he ordered them for us and gave them to us for free! Thought that was so nice! They are the Sealy Springfree latex foam pillows and they are great!
