My wife and I had the misfortune of scheduling a trip to Portland during the Portland Marathon. As a result, we couldn't find a hotel close to town to save our life. So we chose the Staybridge by default. It's really quite nice. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the facilities are first rate, including a nice mini-gym and indoor pool. It's close to some fast food joints, if that's your thing, and there's a Starbucks a couple of blocks away. The only real negative is the place is about a 20-minute drive from downtown Portland. They take great care of you at this hotel. The staff are all smiles, always friendly, full of helpful tips and advice. The pool is supposed to close at ten, but we were having so much fun that they let us stay until we were ready to leave and never mentioned us keeping them past closing time. We even sat in the jacuzzi for a few minutes after swimming. It was like being at home, doing whatever we felt like doing, but better, because we didn't have to clean up after ourselves. It's near enough the airport and has shuttle service to ensure travel conveneince. No perceptable jet noises at night. Room size, (suite), cleanliness and quality of furnishings were excellent. Kitchen stocked with hardware ideal for shorter or prolonged stay. Breakfast provided was excellent. (not just choice of pancakes or muffins - actually healthy food!!!!!). Upon leaving Staybridge Suites, Portland I told my husband that it felt as if it was a home away from home. The sundowner reception was great as soon as we arrived and we ate in the back garden. Loved the breakfasts, newspaper and lounge in the morning. Other patrons were friendly, it felt like family. The suite itself was comfortable and restful and useful with the kitchen. The studio room was perfect, has everything including a complete kitchen with supplies, coffee all the times, breakfast included was nice and even a complimentary dinner with beer and wine. Close to airport as expected. when staying away from home, it is important to have friendly, helpful staff. They went out of their way to give directions, make sure there were extra towels, coffee, etc. And they did it with a cheerful smile. I like that! We were very inpressed with the amenities Staybridge offered. The room gave us everything we needed: plenty of room and comfort. What I liked most was the restaurant downstairs. Although the options were limited...we had a great dinner and breakfast. Considering there were three of us, this is what made our stay so reasonable. I was very pleased by the appearance of the hotel. Walking into the lobby, I thought it looked very nice and the staff were very friendly. We didn't have to wait long for the airport shuttle (to take us or pick us up from the airport), and it is very close to the airport but far enough away to keep down the traffic noise.
