Stardust Review Summary

If you like Princess Bride, you'll love the much lesser known Stardust, another fantasy adventure based on the novel by Neil Gaiman. Many Viewpoints reviewers were surprised Stardust isn't more well-known, considering a cast that includes Robert DeNiro as a "effeminate cross-dressing pirate" and Michelle Pfeiffer as an "evil witch queen." Peter O'Toole and Clare Danes star as well. Despite the fact that this Neil Graiman fairy tale is a love story, male reviewers didn't feel it was too "mushy." A caution does go out here to fans of the original Stardust book, as the storyline has been changed slightly for this film adaptation, and a few reviewers felt the storyline had been done too many times before. Overall, our reviewers feel that Stardust may not have been worth a box office ticket, yet it is worth slipping into your DVD player for some great special effects and a touching love story.

Wow, what can I say? Once upon a time Neil Gaiman wrote a wonderful fantasy, action, adventure, love story, fairy tale novel. He & Charles Vess later adapted it into a Graphic Novel and now he's co-produced it into one heck of a movie with such stars as Robert DeNiro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Clare… read full review »

As a fantasy fan, I've seen the plot of Stardust many times before, it relies on basic concepts that have been used a little too often over the years. I admit that I haven't read the book, though to be honest from the look of the movie, I'm not that interested. Most of the characters were… read full review »

As I know others do, I categorize films/dv into whether they are worth seeing at the theatre. I enjoyed this film; however, I put it into the watch-at-home category. This categorization is not automatically a negative; I watch and enjoy a lot of movies at home. — — The film has appealing special effects, but the sweeping expanses, which are lovely, seemed "seen a lot recently" rather than fresh, and not enough to warrant a theatre. This comment may stem from the relatively large amount of films with special effects I view. Other scenes were more unique and appreciated. — … read full review »

Stardust, starring Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro and Peter O'Toole, is a lovely and beautifully photographed fantasy based on a Neil Graiman novel.  The story starts with a man who crosses the wall between the English town of Wall and the fantasy kingdom of Stormhold.  Once there, he meets a beautiful captive who he spends the night with.  He then returns home.  Nine months later, a knock on his door brings an infant, Tristan. — When Tristan reaches adulthood, he falls of a woman, Victoria (Sienna Miller).  In order to win her hand, he… read full review »

I didn't expect much - I'd hardly even heard of this movie. But this movie is great! Great characters and actors (Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert DeNiro, Peter O'Toole), an interesting, full-of-unexpected-twists fantasy-adventure (a boy promises to bring back to his "love" a fallen star which turns out to be a woman in danger because her jewel is saught after for immortality, and their conflicting interests start off a crazy adventure), humor...everyone I know who's seen it loves… read full review »

This was a great movie. A little cheesy at a few times and Di Niro's caracter was a little over the top. But overall, great plot, talented actors, and decent special effects. I hadn't heard much or expected much from the movie and went in with a open mind. I was very pleasently surprised and will probably buy the movie when it comes out. The plot seems to be one from a fairy tale and the movie plays out as such.… read full review »

I don't care what any other critics have said about this movie. I loved it! It's funny and kind of romantic and sweet. Robert Deniro as an effeminite cross-dressing pirate is something everyone with a sense of humor should see. I thought his performance was very good. Maybe a little light on the 'light on his feet' aspect of his performance. Michelle Pfeiffer's performance as the evil witch queen was very good as well. If you have read the book prior to seeing this movie you may be upset by the changes which have been made to the storyline. But if you have not experienced the written word of… read full review »

This is one movie that we will watch together every  year at Christmastime. It  has everything in it. Love, laughter, magical places and beings, a lot of adventure, and very heartwarming, this is one movie that tells a great story and the ending is unbelievable. The ending  is something you would never guess and just sent a very warming feeling inside of me,true love. — I didn't think my 16 year old would enjoy the movie and was having second thoughts about having bought it. But I was completely wrong-he loved it. It's a movie for the whole family-all ages. —… read full review »

This movie has become my new favorite movie! Now, I love all types of movies but romantic movies have a special place in my heart. This movie was so creatively put together, the characters are so different (you see all types of characters in this movie) yet you can probably relate in some way to all of them. I really don't like Clare Danes but I loved her in this movie-when I finished watching this movie I felt like giving my husband a kiss! It wakes up your romantic feelings and makes you feel happy overall! Great family movie or girls night out… read full review »

When I first saw this movie, I was a little bit bored, in the first few minutes, but then! I really liked it!!! I thought it was great! I just couldn't believe that the graphics were so good! I mean the scenes and all. I liked it when the witches were old looking and then all of a sudden, poof!! Michelle P was new again! That was some scene. The rest of the movie was a little childish, but still, great. —… read full review »

I wasn't sure about casting Robert Deniro in a fantasy film, but I'm a huge Neil Gaiman fan and definitely wanted to see the big-screen adaptation of his novel. I'm glad I did, despite my casting reservations. All the performances were excellent, and Deniro's especially memorable. — — If you love a good fantasy movie where the story is central, then you'll love this gem of a… read full review »
