Today I went down to the Loop for another haircut at the Sears Tower and pit-stop at one of my favorite Starbucks at 200 West Madison where I found another interesting treat -- the Starbucks Power Protein Plate. This ready-to-travel prepackaged meal would be a perfect light lunch or satisfying snack. The customer is presented with an oblong dish covered with a clear plastic lid and containing a hard boiled (cage-free) egg, packets of salt and pepper, three small pieces of Cheddar cheese, a couple apple slices, a small bunch of red grapes, a small whole-wheat bagel and a half-ounce packet of some of the best peanut butter I have ever tasted. (The peanut butter is securely sealed and insulated from the rest of the food which I think is a thoughtful touch especially for those people who are allergic to peanuts.) The Power Protein Plate cost $4.95.
STATS:
The contents of the Power Protein Plate are considered to be one serving. If you eat the peanut butter, this serving contains 370 calories with 150 calories from fat. There are 17 grams Total Fat, five grams Saturated Fat, zero Trans Fat, 225 mg. Cholesterol, 600 mg. Sodium, 39 grams Total Carbs, five grams Dietary Fiber, 17 grams each Sugars and Protein, 10% (D.V.) Vitamin A, 25% Vitamin C, 25% Calcium and 15% Iron.
If you don't eat the peanut butter, the single serving contains 290 calories with 90 calories from fat. There are 11 grams Total Fat, four and a half grams Saturated Fat, zero Trans Fat, 225 mg. Cholesterol, 530 mg. Sodium, 36 grams Total Carbs, four grams Dietary Fiber, 16 grams Sugars and 14 grams Protein ... along with 10% (D.V.) Vitamin A, 25% Vitamin C, 25% Calcium and 10% Iron.
TASTE TIP:
The Starbucks Power Protein Plate could hardly be improved upon but I found that it tasted even better if I substituted Lawry's Seasoned Salt and McCormick's Coarse Ground Black Pepper for that hard-boiled egg instead of the salt and pepper which Starbucks had provided.
