In a perfect world, I would have just bought my Starbucks Pesto Pasta with White Chicken and retreated to the safety of my own home, where all I had on hand were mixes and other ingredients which would have required a modicum of ambition to transform into something edible. Alas, while checking out the salads, I also noticed Starbucks Lowfat Blueberry Muffins. One look at them, and I was a goner. These little treats are not to be confused with the Starbucks Reduced Fat Blueberry Coffee Cake I reviewed earlier. These muffins are made from a batter more golden in color and studded with whole blueberries. Although the muffins are rather small, the batter apparently rises up a great deal during baking to produce a lovely high "crown" which is almost bigger than the base of the muffin itself. The top or "crown" is then dusted with fine powdered sugar.
STATS:
A single muffin contains 320 calories with 25 calories from fat. There are three grams Total Fat, one gram Saturated Fat, zero Trans Fat and Cholesterol, 370 mg. Sodium, 69 Total Carbs, less than one gram Fiber, 42 grams Sugars, four grams Protein, 2% (D.V.) each Vitamin C and Calcium, and 10% Iron. As far as Starbucks is concerned, you could do worse ... a Starbucks regular Blueberry Muffin (about the same size) packs 470 calories with 210 calories from fat (almost as many calories as that substantial Pesto Pasta with White Chicken!)
TASTE TIP:
My Starbucks Lowfat Blueberry Muffin was still delightfully soft and delicious the next morning for breakfast along with a shot of Simply Orange Juice and a cup of plain old Folger's Classic Roast Instant Coffee!
