Some time after the year 1989, the year in which William Shatner's Star Trek V: The Final Frontier put a brake on the movie series' seemingly endless run of box office successes, executive producer Harve Bennett came up with a radical idea to save Paramount's premier franchise from extinction.

Knowing...

I'm a huge Star Trek fan, having watched nearly every episode of all the TV series, starting with the original on NBC so many years ago. I've also seen all the movies, including the latest, which is simply called Star Trek. No numbers, no colon with a following phrase such as "The Wrath of Khan" or...

Directed by J.J Abrams, director of Mission: Impossible III, as well as the executive producer of a few "Lost" episodes, the latest Star Trek installment goes back to the story lines of the original characters in an action-packed, fun-filled adventure in a prequel of it's own. Starring Chris Pine (Just My Luck, Princess Diaries 2) as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as young Spock who plays the role, made famous by Leonard Nimoy, well. Karl Urban and Simon Pegg do pretty right on impressions of McCoy and Scotty, made famous by DeForest Kelley and James Doohan. John Cho (Harold and Kumar...

The Star Trek franchise has been alive for over forty-five years and through all of the various incarnations: Star Trek The Next Generation, Star Trek Deep Space Nice, Star Trek Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise, as well as nine motion pictures, I have been an eager and loyal fan.

The latest Star Trek spin-off, Star Trek: Enterprise only lasted a short while before being canceled due to low ratings in 2005 and Paramount needed to jumpstart concept lest it fade from American popular culture.  Enter Star Trek directed by adrenaline junky JJ Abrams and staring a cast of (virtual) young unknowns.  ...

I'm a Star Trek fan but NOT a Trekkie.  Let's get that clear right up front. There's  a difference.  I've seen all the Star Trek movies and  incarnations of the series I thought were worth my time.  Several of the later ones were not worth anyone's time and because of that, a franchise once iconic in stature teetered on the brink of irrelevance.

Whatever possessed J.J.Abrams, the man responsible for such TV series as LOST, Felicity and Alias along with the films ArmageddonMission Impossible III, and Cloverfield, to tackle this once beloved franchise and its instantly recognizable characters...

Seriously, how good is the latest Star Trek?

Allow me to put it in perspective this reviewer's state of mind with this film.  I am a hardcore classic Trek fan.  That's not to say that I have seen every single episode, know every movie by heart, or even seen the animated series.  Far from it.  In fact, I've seen a few of the episodes, I have seen all the Classic Trek movies, but don't know them by heart, and I've seen very few of the animated series.  That's not to say that I am a Star Trek fan.  In fact, I am a huge fan.  In fact, one would say I would be called a Trekkie, if not for...

Star Trek (2009) Remake or reinvention... Most people think when you go back to write something as a prequel or so it will be a flop or worse than the original. Star Trek was just the opposite. It open doors to new fans and re-energized it so to say. With the all new cast (aside from Nimoy) created something "sexy" in a sense about Star Trek. The only flaw in the cast I suppose that anyone could have argued with was the selection of Simon Pegg (Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz). I think anyone who heard that who loves Star Trek was sure that was a flopped selection... but soon proven wrong by his...

Star Trek (2009) brings the Star Trek story into the modern day.  Brilliant effects and action and phenomenal casting strung across the framework of a strong sci-fi plot carry the viewer straight through from the first second through to the end.

You can watch Star Trek without previously having seen any other Star Trek shows or movies and love it.  But if you're familiar with the original Star Trek series and/or the first six Star Trek movies (featuring the cast of the original series), you will be able to appreciate it a ton more. The main reason for this is the brilliant casting and acting....

Me and husband went to the new the Star Trek movie.I'm not a Star Trek fan but my husband is.I went into the movie knowing very little about the series.I was pleastly surprised.Even thought I knew next to nothing I really liked the movie.I did not feel left out or in the dark about anything that happened. It was action packed and a nice way to start the summer movie season. The special effects are great and the story line is clever and refreshing for a series that has been about for so long.I'm really looking forward to when it comes out on dvd.

We waited months for this movie Star Trek. Simon Pegg was brilliant. James T. was oK...loved the dynamic between young spock and love interest. also great to see real spock. but his teeth were not right.  I guess the budget did not include getting some well fitting teeth for such an Icon.  and the music. that had to be the biggest let down. Since when do we equate great epic movie scores with ripped off digital sound bites?  I have heard the Star Trek score from an orchestra and that is as it should be.   Another disappointment was the costumes.  Not the great  red polyester ones that the...

The latest Star Trek movie gets the Star Wars treatment, in that we see how it all started. Instead of starting out with Captain Kirk already manning the Enterprise, we start out with his father, Captain George Kirk, manning the USS Kelvin. They allow just enough background in early on for us to know there's a connection, yet not give it all away.

The USS Kelvin is attacked by Captain Nero of the Romulan mining ship Narada. Captain George Kirk orders everyone off the ship, including his wife who is going into labor. He's coaxed aboard the Nero, being asked if he knows the location of Ambassador...

I admit it, I am a "Trekie." Having grown up watching Capt. Kirk and Spock as well as the rest of the crew of the Enterprise, to become an adult and parent watching each of the new "generations" as well as each movie (and even owning them) I was sure that Star Trek was coming to an end.  Honestly after ST: TNG I was pretty much over it as many of the newer shows and movies may have had better sound effects and more technology on the ship the story lines just didn't cut it.

But WOW! You can read in all the other reviews about the amazing cast of characters and IMDB.com can give you a list of...

To paraphrase Val in "A Chorus Line" just before she starts singing "Dance 10, Looks 3": "Let's get one thing straight: I never heard of Star Trek, I never saw Star Trek, I don't give a F---- about Star Trek."

Okay, it wasn't as bad as that. Of course I had heard of Star Trek but I, honestly, never saw a TV episode or any of the movies because, mainly, I am not a Sci-Fi fan.

I won't go into details but making a long story short I went to see the movie "Star Trek" today. Take away the special effects and it would be a 40-45 minute story. As in most movies that use special effects this one goes...

I'd like to say that I was one of the original Star Trek fans, but that wouldn't be quite true.  I only saw bits and pieces of one episode when the original series was still on NBC, and  didn't quite know what to make of it then.  But soon, Kirk, Spock and McCoy were in syndication and a life-long interest was born.  I've waited in line to see every single Star Trek movie (watch out for the odd-numbered ones!).  With Nemesis, though, I resigned myself to the fact that the end had come at last.

Until word came that more was on the way, and that we'd do a little time traveling ourselves! ...

I admit, I am not a Star Trek fan.. I have never even seen a previous episode of Star Trek before, and the only reason why I went to go see this movie was because I thought that Chris Pine was really cute. All I can say is that when I left the theater, I thought this was an AMAZING movie... best movie since well... ever. It was funny, and action packed and I am dying for it to come on DVD so I can buy it.
