I'd like to say that I was one of the original Star Trek fans, but that wouldn't be quite true.  I only saw bits and pieces of one episode when the original series was still on NBC, and  didn't quite know what to make of it then.  But soon, Kirk, Spock and McCoy were in syndication and a life-long interest was born.  I've waited in line to see every single Star Trek movie (watch out for the odd-numbered ones!).  With Nemesis, though, I resigned myself to the fact that the end had come at last.

Until word came that more was on the way, and that we'd do a little time traveling ourselves!  We were going back to the future - back to the early days of the characters from the original series that we already knew.

And what a joy it was!  Despite the entirely understandable, yet somewhat unsettling, ads that proclaimed, "This isn't your father's Star Trek," I found that it actually was - and more!

Back was the focus on characters!  Back was the action!  Back was the humor and passion!  Back was the attitude and (sorry, Spock) the emotion!

Channelling Star Trek at its best, and updating it in a way that is wholly satisfactory to old and new audiences alike, J.J. Abrams' run at the TV and film legend is a delight.  A strong story and great characters bring the soul of the series at its best back to life.

Yes, Star Trek is a back.  With its many treats for long-time fans, and its action, story, characters and adventure for everyone, it's a winner all around.  Want real science?  Watch Nova.  Want action, adventure and a whole lot of fun?  It's Star Trek.  Again.
