****Below you will find my original review on this product. I must amend this review to include the product is an absolute waste of money. My original review was written in October, 2008. Since then, I have used this product on a bi-weekly basis for disposing junk mail. It is now the beginning of February, 2009 and the motor completely burned out. I did not abuse the product in any way. As a matter of fact, I never put a credit card or folded mail into it. Nothing that would strain the motor. This shredder is not cheap; actually it is quite pricey.
My best advice to you about this product would be not to buy it!*****
The MailMate is a counter top paper shredder distributed by Staples. MailMate has an attractive black and chrome design and fits onto my kitchen counter perfectly. It is a little larger than my toaster.
I first saw this product at a friend's home. I loved the concept of it; you open your mail, read it and then deposit it into the shredder. What could be easier? Especially when you get tons of dreaded junk mail.
MailMate is incredibly easy to use. You turn on the power, insert the item to be shredded and your done. When you need to clean out the debris, just pull the handle attached to the bin on the front of the machine, dump the debris in the garbage and reinsert the bin. Done!
The MailMate is also able to shred credit cards, cd's, dvd's and up to 10 pages. There is also a safety function which will shut the machine off automatically if you forget to.
In the day and age of identity theft, the MailMate is a definite must have.
