Many people have heard of MRSA, which stands for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. This is a type of staph infection that has become resistant to antibiotics commonly used to treat staph infections.

The Staph Infection Resources website contains several high quality, close-up pictures of MRSA and infections that are commonly mistaken for MRSA, such as spider bites. These photos will not maximize to full screen, but they seem to be large enough to adequately view the various skin infections. They do have a couple of pictures of people with dark skin, which is helpful because infections look different on lighter skinned people than they do on darker skinned people.

If you have a skin rash that does not clear quickly with over-the-counter treatments, becomes worse, if accompanied by fever or chills, or you have an altered immunity, you should contact your healthcare provider. This review is not intended to be medical advice.

Here is a list of the rashes pictured on the site:

  • brown recluse spider bite
  • staph infections
  • MRSA infections
  • impetigo
  • furunculosis
  • furunculitis
  • folliculitis
  • contact dermatitis
  • carbuncle
  • boil
  • various other skin infections

I'll give you fair warning--these pictures are graphic, so you might not want to eat pizza while viewing this web page. They are actually fairly mild pictures of infections that have not progressed to "superinfections." I thought these might be more useful for general purposes. I'm a nurse and am used to caring for people with wounds like this and much worse, but I know that some people may not be prepared for graphic pictures such as these.

My Viewpoint:

I think education is key in helping people to better understand health concerns such as MRSA. Perhaps this Staph Infection Resources website might help you or someone you know to seek needed medical treatment.

I remember you posting some information on the infections your son developed. I feel for you guys as you go through this with him. It is heartbreaking to see a little one suffer in particular. I'm hoping that some of my reviews may actually help someone in the future. Thanks so much for reading.

When my son was 4 weeks old he contracted in the hospital a Staph Aureus. Due to the failure to diagnose it in time, he developed osteomyilitis, septic arthritis, erbs palsy, and is now left with a severly deformed right humerus, osteoarthritis, and erbs palsy. He has undergone quite a few surgeries and will need several more in the future. Thousands of people die from contracting staph aureus in hospitals each year. Thanks for getting the word out on this one. I don't think enough people take it seriously. Knowledge is best!
