Stanley Tools Garage Workshop —

When we renovated our garage earlier this year to serve as a workshop/studio we wanted to keep visible clutter to a minimum. We wanted as much enclosed flexible closet space without without the space looking too industrial.

After looking at several different storage systems that were either outright too costly (Gladiator) or cheaply made (Coleman, Black & Decker) we found what we were looking for with the Stanley Garage Workshop.

This system is an attractive, flexible combination of tall cabinets, floor cabinets and wall mounted cabinets made of high quality plastics and stainless steel.

The individual units can be configured in virtually any combination. We opted to purchase two tall cabinets ($199 ea.) that would frame two different varieties of floor cabinets (avg. $149 ea.). The floor cabinets formed the base for a work bench.

Of course like most systems of this type you have to assemble them yourself. When I first opened the cartons I suffered a momentary panic attack. So many parts. I hate parts! A Xanax (or two) later and a scan of the excellent instructions/illustrations and I was feeling much better.

A Surprise
There's always a surprise when you have to put things together isn't there? But, this was a pleasant surprise. Owing to some excellent instructions/illustration and precision construction, the entire system was together in less than 2 hours including liberal breaks.

Each piece is embossed with numbers and directional arrows to match the illustrations. Screw holes were always perfectly aligned and there were no missing parts. What's going on here?

Could Stanley have built the perfect system? Well, actually not quite. The Stanley Garage Workshop is actually a re-badged system manufactured by Zag Manufacturing of Israel. I guess in Israel, sloppy manufacturing can be costly if not outright deadly.

Shelves are fully adjustable and snap into place firmly. Sidewalls (both interior & exterior) are designed to serve as pegboards. Several utility attachments and holders are included with each cabinet. So many in fact that you'll probably have some left over. All-in-all this is a very intelligent design.

My Viewpoint
If you're looking for attractive, flexible high quality garage/workshop storage at real world prices, this is a system I highly recommend. You can find it at your local Home Depot.
