Stamps.com Review

      The law firm that I work for reassessed some of our costs last year. One of the biggest surprises was how much time we spent dealing with postage and mail. Our clerks used to hoard certified mail forms that they took from USPS, spend time filling them out for about 100 pieces of mail and then driving them over to USPS. It still took up an extra hour a day that they could have been spending doing other things. After some trial and error in reassigning certified mail duties, our firm started researching postage meters that could print certified mail. In January, we  signed-up for Stamps.com, which allows us to print out one form using the office printer and attach labels as necessary before taking the items to the post office.

      Stamps.com also offers return receipt service, which we use all of the time because our document are sensitive. The clerks had trouble getting the labels to print properly on our printers at first (Stamps.com has proprietary forms for Certified Mail), but they eventually figured it out. Our firm also uses the cost codes option, which we use to assign codes to our clients to keep track of how much money we spend to send them documents. Stamps.com generates a monthly report with the information, but our clerks can generate reports at any time by exporting the print history and putting the information into Excel.

      For the most part, our clerks have been impressed with how easy it is to use the Stamps.com interface, and we often can have just one clerk print labels and send out documents to our clients. We haven't done a cost analysis of the service as of yet, but the time it has saved us has made a big impact in how much our clerks are able to do in one day.
