Stamps.com is a great service - but only if you use a LOT of postage and make many trips to the post office. For the average person, you should just buy your stamps at the post office or grocery store. However, for the small business owner who has a lot of things to mail, the monthly fee might actually be what you would otherwise spend on gas and the value of your time for trips to the post office. In addition to the monthly service fee, you also have to invest in printer ink (which, as they point out, is cheaper than postage meter ink) and labels, which you can purchase at an office supply store, or from Stamps.com directly. You also have to be very careful to load your labels in properly. If you make a mistake, then you lose the money you just paid for that postage. You can try the service out for free (but you need a credit card to do so), and they'll give you $5 in free postage to try it out.  The free software is easy to use and has lots of options, whether you're mailing envelopes or packages.  If it weren't for the monthly fee, I would keep my subscription to this service.
